Hong Kong-based Asian Sky Group recently closed four “high-level contracts to provide corporate sales and service work for important Asian-based clients,” it announced today. The transactions included the outfitting acceptance on schedule for a new ACJ318 completed by Lufthansa Technik for a Japanese client; an agreement to oversee and manage an ACJ319 from green delivery through to its redelivery from the Airbus Corporate Jet Center for a Chinese client; the sale of a pre-owned ACJ319 to a Chinese client; and the green delivery of a new BBJ1 from Boeing for a Chinese client.
Boeing Business Jet
Boeing is set to deliver two more of its Boeing Business Jets to Russian clients later this year, taking the total number of the airliner-class aircraft in VIP service in the country to 23. Its total sales tally to date for Russia and the neighboring CIS countries numbers 25 aircraft, with Russia accounting for 19 of these.
Jet Aviation Basel has signed an agreement with an undisclosed client to complete a BBJ interior. The 737 derivative will be delivered green to the Basel completion center in Switzerland in next year’s first quarter.
Jet Aviation has been completing aircraft at its Basel facilities since 1977 and has created more than 200 cabin interiors. The Jet Aviation Basel Design Studio was established in 2001 and employs 12 designers. The studio is responsible for about 40 percent of the company’s single-aisle bizliner interior creations.
Pats Aircraft Systems recently delivered a BBJ3, marking the 14th such turnkey interior completion performed by the Georgetown, Del.-based center. The aircraft was turned over to a Middle East customer who described the interior as “quite elegant and…a dynamic space in which to relax or work.” Cabin amenities include a customized in-flight entertainment system with simultaneous audio-visual on-demand (AVoD) available at 70 locations in the aircraft, and a system that allows inflight use of mobile phones.
By the end of this year, the Aviation Partners Boeing joint venture is expected to receive certification of the new split-scimitar winglet for the Boeing 737. This modification should be of interest to Boeing BBJ owners, too. A United Airlines 737-800 equipped with the split scimitar winglet made its first flight on July 16 at Boeing’s Everett, Washington plant. United is retrofitting its 737-800 and -900ER fleet with the new winglets, starting early next year after certification is complete.
Pats Aircraft in Georgetown, Del., has rationalized its workflow to build on the record performance it achieved last year.
Once part of DeCrane Aerospace, Pats was spun off as an independent company in 2010 when Goodrich acquired DeCrane. (United Technologies subsequently acquired Goodrich.) In late 2011 Pats was restructured in a debt for equity swap and today it is majority-owned by Minnesota-based Wayzata Capital Partners.
Jet Aviation and Vienna-based Art Aviation have reached an agreement whereby Jet Aviation will serve as the exclusive maintenance provider for Art Aviation’s fleet of aircraft. Founded in 2012, Art Aviation operates two Bombardier Global XRSs, two Global 6000s, a Boeing BBJ1 and a Dassault Falcon 900EX and Falcon 7X. Jet Aviation will provide scheduled base maintenance from its facilities in Basel or Geneva and line maintenance from its Moscow Vnukovo facility.
Aviation Partners Boeing has launched the split-scimitar winglet program for the Boeing 737-900ER with an order from United Airlines. The carrier had already launched a similar program in January for its 737-800s, with FAA approval for a supplemental type certificate (STC) expected in October. The 900ER STC should be approved next February. The split-scimitar winglet modifies the existing blended winglet with a new cap section, and adds a ventral strake.
Inflight Executive Jet Centre at Stansted Airport in London has appointed Steve Grimes as its new managing director. Grimes is assigned the mission of expanding business for Inflight’s FBO and its maintenance shop.
“I am looking forward to growing the business in both areas,” said Grimes, “which could mean expanding with new locations for both operations and maintenance.” Inflight also said its growth strategy includes expanding into aircraft completions and interior refurbishment.
Denton, Texas-based Odyssey Aerospace Components is excited to bring samples of its VVIP 747-8 interior cabinetry to EBACE 2013. At Booth 1027 attendees can closely examine the quality of the company’s business jet custom cabinetry. “Back in Texas we are in the middle of many design reviews [on the 747-8] and the results are positive,” said Trey Bryson, president of Odyssey Aerospace Components.
