FedEx has signed on to assist Really Quiet of Mojave, Calif., in the production, parts management and customer service of the latter company’s Stage 3 translating ejector hush kit for Gulfstream IIs and IIIs. FedEx developed a Stage 3 solution for its own fleet of Boeing 727s, with more than 730 shipsets delivered to date.
In what is claimed to be a first, EMS Technologies last month said that an AMT-50 multi-channel satcom antenna and HSD-128 high-speed data terminal have been installed aboard a helicopter. TC Communications of Irvine, Calif., performed the installation in a Boeing 234 (civil Chinook) twin-rotor helicopter for the National Fire Administration of Taiwan used for disaster management and search-and-rescue missions.
Pratt & Whitney Canada is starting its second month of ground runs of the PW610F, the smallest of the company’s new PW600-series engines and the powerplant selected by Eclipse Aviation for its very light jet. On May 4 the engine achieved its rated takeoff thrust of 900 pounds after five hours of ground testing.
NetJets aircraft will fly 300,000 occupied hours this year, chairman and CEO Richard Santulli told reporters during ceremonies in Columbus, Ohio, to announce a rebranding that changed the company name from Executive Jet Inc. to NetJets Inc. Citing confusion among the press, prospects and customers, Santulli noted that “changing our corporate name to NetJets Inc.
Alteon, Boeing’s aviation training arm, last month opened a major facility at London Gatwick Airport. The 53,000-sq-ft facility will provide pilot and flight attendant training initially on simulators for the Boeing 737 and 757 and the Airbus A320. The center will also become the headquarters of Jeppesen UK and its international trip planning services.
“Its time has come,” predicted Eclipse Aviation CEO Vern Raburn. “It” refers to the entry-level twinjet known as the Eclipse 500, currently priced at $837,500 (2000 $). And if all goes as planned, Raburn will see his bold vision take flight before next month ends.
Cabin-safety and -services training for business aviation flight attendants was introduced late last year by Renton, Wash.-based Alteon Training (formerly FlightSafety Boeing), a subsidiary of Boeing. This is Boeing’s first venture into business aviation cabin training outside the Boeing Business Jet training program.
All Nippon Airways, the Japanese airline that became the launch customer for the new Boeing 7E7 in late April, just days later added a firm order for another four 74-seat Bombardier Q400 turboprops, bringing its commitment total to 12 airplanes. The contract signaled ANA’s third follow-on order for the big turboprops, after it signed for its first batch of four in October 2002.
Gore Design Completions (Booth No. 4050) has announced delivery of a Boeing Business Jet. The interior refurbishment was a major project that included replacement of virtually all the previous materials. Gore Design also performed A and B1/B2 maintenance checks, incorporated 25 Boeing service bulletins and cleared an airworthiness directive.
After celebrating its 10th year with record sales of 19 aircraft, Boeing Business Jets has logged 30 sales since last year’s NBAA Convention, said Steve Hill, BBJ president, at a press conference here in the Georgia World Congress Center on Monday. Total value of the orders increased from $2.25 billion last year to $2.9 billion this year. Included in this total are 16 BBJs, two BBJ2s, three BBJ3s, two 747-8 VIPs and seven 787 VIPs.
