Boeing Business Jets gathered momentum last year with sales of 23 aircraft valued at about $3 billion. That momentum, the company said at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) last month, has carried over into this year, with the company logging orders for seven aircraft–six BBJs and an executive version of the 787-9–since January.
In a rare case in aviation, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is suing Jeppesen Sanderson (a Boeing property) for its part in aiding so-called “extraordinary rendition” flights. Specifically, the suit says that Jeppesen Dataplan provided support in the form of flight planning and handling for flights conducted primarily by the CIA to take alleged terrorists overseas to be tortured.
First-quarter delivery numbers released last month by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) show a healthy and continued growth trend in both the jet and turboprop sectors. Overall, the manufacturers delivered 16 percent more aircraft in the first three months of this year than they did in the same period last year.
Making a final show appearance here is Boeing Business Jets chief pilot Capt. Mike Hewett, whose BBJ flight to EBACE saw him pass the 12,800 flying-hour mark (including more than 4,000 hours in the U.S. Navy flying mostly Grumman A-6 Intruders).
Computer-generated virtual cabin concepts for Boeing’s latest large bizliners are appearing with some regularity as the order book for the executive/VIP versions of the company’s 787 and 747-8 grow.
One of the most recent is a 787 interior from BMW Group DesignworksUSA, created for a fictitious Russian client in his mid-30s–a global traveler who would be spending a significant amount of time in the air.
It can take up to two years to outfit a VIP widebody jet. Even the video featuring the Andrew Winch Designs scheme for a Boeing 787 on the Lufthansa Technik (LHT) booth here (No. 1240) took four months to complete. LHT has a widebody slot open in September, but it is already the subject of negotiations and may be taken soon.
Boeing Business Jets president Steven Hill couldn’t help upstaging himself in a press conference yesterday, initially ignoring the announced subject of large aircraft executive/VIP cabin concepts in favor of an announcement that last night the company had inked deals for a new Boeing Business Jet and yet another VIP version of the 787 Dreamliner.
Boeing Business Jets yesterday announced seven new orders since January–for six BBJs and one executive/VIP version of the 787-9 Dreamliner–valued at $478 million at current list prices.
“We continue to see incredible demand,” said BBJ president Steven Hill, adding that Boeing is poised for another “phenomenal year.”
A new European aircraft registry designed specifically for corporate jets–which promises a high level of service and competitive rates–has a range of M-prefixed registration options to offer as well.
