When is a business jet not a business jet?–When it has been developed into a regional jet that has been converted into a corporate jet. Some of those conversions, such as that of the Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet Series 200 (CRJ200), itself based on the CL-600 Challenger business jet, have enjoyed mixed fortunes.

Bombardier Aerospace has lost its firm order for 15 CRJ1000s from MyAir after Italy grounded the airline and suspended its license to fly on July 24. The Italian civil aviation authority said months of financial troubles had made MyAir’s services unreliable and that it would not allow it to resume operations until it presents a viable financial plan.

The first Project Phoenix CRJ is about to enter service, having made its first flight on June 12 from the Flying Colours facility in Canada, where the former Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet was converted into a 15-passenger business jet. The customer for the CRJ is Hong Kong-based aircraft sales group Ritz Pacific.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres (Hall 2B Stand H110) is displaying the tires it will be supplying for Bombardier’s new CRJ1000 Next Gen regional jet for the first time, after a recent contract award by the Canadian manufacturer. The 100-seat aircraft–45 of which have been ordered by airlines such as Adria Airways, Brit Air and My Air–is set to enter service in late 2009.

Bombardier Aerospace yesterday announced a new firm order for 15 CRJ1000s from Spanish regional carrier Air Nostrum. The Valencia-based Iberia Regional partner has now placed firm orders for a total of 35 CRJ1000s and has revealed itself as the previously unidentified launch customer for the 100-seat-class jet.
