Aircraft builders often construct mockups for marketing purposes. This life-size mockup of the Bombardier CSeries 100 has an entirely different purpose–one that is critical to the new single-aisle airliner meeting its entry-into-service deadline, planned for the end of 2013.
Bombardier is adamant that the first CSeries100 single-aisle airliner will fly before the end of this year, despite the perception among outside observers that a lot of work remains to be done in less than six months. Bombardier Aerospace’s latest annual 20-year forecast of the market for single-aisle airliners and business jets generally sees these sectors “trending positively” as they continue to recover from the downturn in deliveries that began in 2009. Broadly speaking, the Canadian airframer’s forecasters see the commercial aircraft market (up to 145 seats) taking a hit from dips in global domestic product (GDP) around the world and inflated oil prices.

The first Bombardier C Series CS100 will fly before the end of this year, asserted Mike Arcamone, president of the Montreal-based airframer’s commercial aircraft division, at a briefing last week at the company’s headquarters ahead of next month’s Farnborough International Airshow.
Bombardier Aerospace “is confident in the strong, long-term potential of the business aircraft industry” and, in its latest 20-year forecast for the business aircraft market, released today, it predicts deliveries of 24,000 business jets (excluding very light jets and bizliners) worth $648 billion from 2012 to 2031. Broken down in 10-year increments, the forecast anticipates 9,800 business jet deliveries worth $266 billion from 2012 to 2021 and 14,200 deliveries worth $382 billion from 2022 to 2031.
Aircraft components manufacturer Liebherr-Aerospace has expanded its customer service facility in Saline, Mich., by 33,000 sq ft to meet an increasing demand for landing-gear overhauls of Embraer and other aircraft operating in North and South America. The company said the expansion will help accommodate future service on Bombardier C Series and Airbus A350XWB landing gear.
