Air Canada launched the first direct competition against Bombardier Q400 operator Porter Airlines out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on May 1, when the flag carrier’s new regional subsidiary, Sky Regional Airlines, began service between the downtown Toronto airfield and Montreal. Flying under the new Air Canada Express brand, Sky Regional operates hourly Q400 service up to 15 times daily, between 7:30 a.m.

StandardAero has signed an exclusive maintenance agreement with West Atlantic to cover more than 80 Pratt & Whitney Canada PW126 and PW126A engines. The support agreement involves engine maintenance and field support as well as technical expertise to facilitate the development of West Atlantic's own internal capabilities of ensuring basic engine support sustainability requirements.

An emergency Airworthiness Directive issued by Transport Canada yesterday calls for further inspection of Bombardier Q400 main landing gear (MLG) after line checks uncovered two cases of cam mechanism failure in the gear's alternate extension system (AES). The cam mechanism operates the cable to open the main landing gear door and releases the MLG uplock in sequence.

Gurgaon, India-based SpiceJet placed a firm order last month for 15 Bombardier Q400 turboprops in a deal worth some $446 million, according to the Canadian manufacturer. The low-fare airline also took options on another 15 airplanes.
