Antoine Ajarrista was promoted to senior vice president and general manager of Dassault Falcon’s Little Rock completion center. Ajarrista served as senior vice president of operational control at the Little Rock facility for the past three-and-a-half years. A graduate of the Ecole Centrale de Paris, with a master’s of science degree in engineering, Ajarrista was production director at Dassault’s Bordeaux-Merignac facility before moving to Little Rock.
Turboméca and Dassault Falcon factories located in south- west France suffered only minor damage, if any, during a storm in January that packed winds of 93 mph. Operations were not interrupted, the companies told AIN. The engine maker has its headquarters in Bordes and one maintenance facility in Tarnos, while Dassault builds business jets in Biarritz and near Bordeaux. The storm caused major damage and killed 11 people.
At its Saint-Cloud headquarters near Paris, Dassault began presenting its 2001 results with military precision at 9 a.m. sharp on March 6. This was almost ironic as the manufacturer, still famous for its Mirage and Rafale fighters, confirmed its main business is now Falcon business jets, which accounted for 76 percent of last year’s revenues.
Dassault has launched a major extension of the Charles Lindbergh Hall, the Falcon 7X final assembly line at its Bordeaux Mérignac production site in France. The extension adds 260,000 sq ft and means the facility will be able to accommodate another 14 Falcon 7Xs. Construction started in November last year and the new building should be operational early next year.
EADS Sogerma Services has come to the Dubai airshow (Stand No. C206) with a new strategy that it hopes will balance its books after a period of losses. According to Bernard Pommier, vice president of corporate communications, the key to the future of the wholly owned EADS subsidiary lies with its decision to reposition from its traditional aircraft maintenance business.
Singapore Technologies Marine is building two freighters for Airbus to transport the largest componentsof the A380 super-large airliner by sea from its plants inthe UK, Germany and Spain to the final assembly plantin Toulouse, France. The ships–each more than 413 feet long–will be operated for the European airframer by French maritime company Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA).
EADS has found a solution to save 650 out of 1,050 jobs at the Bordeaux facility of its Sogerma Services subsidiary. France-based TAT group, which now operates its maintenance, repair and overhaul business under the Sabena Technics brand, is taking over the site’s maintenance activity. This will account for 500 employees. EADS will keep the aerostructures activity–another 150 jobs.
Employees at EADS Sogerma Services’ Merignac aircraft maintenance near Bordeaux in southwest France still have jobs thanks to French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. EADS’ top management caved in to De Villepin’s demands that they abandon plans to shut the loss-making facility, agreeing to a temporary reprieve and the salvation of some jobs.
