Executive charter broker Air Partner has opened new offices in Washington, D.C., and Boston. The UK-based group also has operations in New York City and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., having moved into the U.S. market five years ago.
AIN has learned that Signature Flight Support and Mercury Air Centers have signed a letter of intent for Signature to buy Mercury’s base at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass., outside Boston for $15.5 million in cash
Made up primarily of operators at Hanscom Field (BED) outside Boston, a new local business aviation group has formed. According to NBAA regional representative Dean Saucier, the group has been active in dealing with local political and economic issues, as well as issues relating to ATC. Massport, the port authority that controls BED, also operates Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).
Bids are invited from “qualified persons or firms” to design, develop and operate a new FBO facility at Boston Logan International Airport, which is currently served by Signature Flight Support. As part of its request for proposals (RFP), the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) will host a pre-submission conference and site tour on February 10 where copies of the draft lease and operating agreements will be available.
Boston Hanscom Field may yet get a third FBO to compete against Jet Aviation and Signature Flight Support. Crosspoint, which in May 2005 won the bid to build a new FBO on vacant property used by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for research, elected not to build, so Hanscom operator Massport (Massachusetts Port Authority) plans to reopen the bidding process.
Signature Flight Support broke ground late last month on a new facility at Boston Logan Airport. The new 12,000-sq-ft, two-story terminal and 8,800-sq-ft ground-support repair shop are scheduled to open next July. The company, which has operated an FBO at Logan for nearly 40 years, recently signed a new lease with the Massachusetts Port Authority under which it will operate the FBO at Logan until 2016.
