Embraer has temporarily closed its Executive Jet Services facility at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn., in response to the economic climate. “We saw we were not going to have as many airplanes flying in that region as we expected, so there was no sense in keeping the center open,” said Edson Carlos Mallaco, Embraer Executive Jets vice president for customer support and services.

Embraer has opened a factory-owned executive jet service center at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (Fla.) International Airport, its third such facility in the U.S. The 55,500-sq-ft center will provide support for the company’s Phenom 100 and 300 and Legacy 450, 500 and 600 business jets. Embraer recently opened executive jet service facilities at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn., and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

EMBRAER EMB-145LR, CHESTER, MASS., MARCH 26, 2002–FAA inspectors found a “baseball size” hole in the left elevator of a Chautauqua Airlines–d.b.a. America West Express Flight 5058–aircraft after it encountered lightning on approach into Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, Conn. All three crewmembers and 14 passengers escaped injury in the incident.

Deciding that it wanted to return to the meat and potatoes of its core business, hamburger restaurant chain Krystal has divested its FBO at Chattanooga (Tenn.) Airport (CHA). The buyer was TAC Air, the Texarkana, Texas-based division of Truman Arnold Companies. Assets include Krystal North and South facilities, located at opposite ends of the ramp area, which is east of the intersection of Runways 2-20 (7,401 ft) and 15-33 (5,000 ft).

TAC Air, a division of the Truman Arnold Companies, held ceremonies to open its new hangar complex at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn., last month. The 20,000-sq-ft hangar/office complex has 6,200 sq ft of office space and a 33,000-sq-ft ramp with radiant heating extending 10 feet from the door. The new building gives TAC Air 70,000 sq ft of hangar floor area under roof.

Columbia Aircraft Services expects to break ground this month on a new 20,000-sq-ft storage hangar at its Groton, Conn. (GON) facility. “We have commitments for all the space. It’s already full,” Columbia founder and president Art Maurice told AIN. Later this year, the maintenance, avionics and sales specialist plans to begin construction on a new 5,000-sq-ft terminal building.
