Wade and Dave Eyerly, the founders of Surf Air–an all-you-can-fly Part 135 membership service that operates Pilatus PC-12s on West Coast routes–left the company earlier this month. The brothers started Surf Air in 2011 and launched flight operations in June last year. Last month the company hired former Frontier Airlines chief Jeff Potter as the new CEO.

Jet Center Los Angeles says the airport distinguishes itself from others in the area by creating an environment to welcome business aviation.

Business aircraft operators and pilots weary of the high cost of flying into Los Angeles International (LAX), noise restrictions and curfews at Van Nuys and Burbank, or the un-welcome mat represented by Santa Monica’s higher landing fees can find respite in a hidden gem in the Los Angeles metroplex, Jack Northrop Field/Hawthorne Municipal Airport and its FBO, Jet Center Los Angeles. The airport is located about two miles east of LAX.

Surf Air, a charter operator offering all-you-can-fly trips between select California cities for a monthly fee, received its FAA operating certificate and plans to begin flying on June 12. Surf Air is flying Pilatus PC-12 single-engine turboprops with two pilots, and the first cities served will be Los Angeles and San Francisco, using airports in Burbank and San Carlos.

The longer that the House and Senate take to vote on FAA reauthorization legislation, the more likely that new proposals will be added that will further delay any vote.

A recent letter sent by three California congressmen to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure is asking for nighttime curfew legislation for Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and Van Nuys Airport to be added to the reauthorization bill.
