The second-annual Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (ABACE) kicks off next week at the Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Centre FBO at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport in China, and it promises to play a vital role in stimulating and facilitating growth in the adoption of business aircraft as productivity tools in the region.

With the Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (ABACE) on the horizon this month, show organizers are anticipating approximately 7,000 attendees, nearly double last year’s mark, based on the success of 2012’s re-launch. According to an NBAA spokesman, 84 percent of last year’s exhibitors will be returning for a second stint at the Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre, and the number of exhibitors overall has increased from 156 last year to more than 175 this year.

NBAA awarded its 2012 Gold Wing Award for reporting excellence to AIN senior editor Matt Thurber today at the NBAA Convention. The award recognizes Thurber’s article, “Saving Lives, One Flight at a Time,” about business aviation’s role in organ transport, published in the August/September 2011 issue of AIN Publications’ Business Jet Traveler. The association presented its David Ewald Platinum Wing Award to Flying Magazine editor-in-chief Robert Goyer.

An appeals court in Brazil found American journalist Joe Sharkey guilty yesterday of defamation for his reporting and commentary following the 2006 accident in which 154 died when a Brazilian airliner and a Legacy 600 business jet collided at 37,000 feet over the central Amazon. Sharkey, on assignment at the time for Business Jet Traveler (an AIN Publications magazine for users of business aviation) was one of seven on the Legacy 600 who survived the collision when the damaged business jet managed an emergency landing at a remote military airstrip in the jungle.
