Nearly 50 customers have completed Phenom 100 pilot training at Embraer CAE Training Services, a joint venture between CAE and Embraer, CAE told AIN. In addition, several FAA, EASA and Brazilian ANAC officials have completed the 14-day Phenom training course, which has been conducted at CAE’s Dallas facility since September.

By next year, the Helicopter-International Working Group (H-IWG) plans to submit to ICAO a framework for a set of international criteria for the classification and qualification of flight simulation training devices (FSTD).

Equipment manufacturer Thales is one of the two main shareholders in Helisim, at 45 percent, on par with Eurocopter. The remaining 10 percent is held by Défense Conseil International (DCI). “We see our partnership with Eurocopter as our major investment in simulators,” said Chris Gane, general manager of Thales Training and Simulation. He is looking at opening training centers elsewhere in the world, again in cooperation with Eurocopter.

Two joint ventures of simulator manufacturer CAE (Stand No. 530) made key announcements in the run-up to this week’s MEBA show. First, initial customers for Embraer’s Phenom 100 very light jet have passed the FAA practical test at the Embraer CAE Training Services (ECTS) facility at Alliance Airport in Fort Worth, Texas. Second, Emirates-CAE Flight Training (ECFT) of Dubai announced two offshore helicopter contracts.

Embraer CAE Training Services, a joint venture of Brazilian OEM Embraer and Canadian simulator training services provider CAE, launched its first pilot and technical training programs for the Phenom 100 entry-level jet, to be based at the CAE training facility in Dallas. While the announcement at NBAA’08 marked the official launch, technical training actually began in August and pilot training in September.
