Reno-based FBO and charter operator Jet West took over the former Air Trails FBO at Salinas Municipal Airport in central California last year and remodeled the entire facility. Former employees of Jet Republic complain of being betrayed and misled in the sudden collapse of the European would-be fractional ownership company. Speaking to AIN on condition of anonymity, the staff has claimed that the company breached its contractual obligations by failing to give formal notification that they were being laid off, so preventing them from claiming unemployment benefits in their countries.

San Diego International Airport has begun a major reconstruction project on Taxiway Charlie, which will affect access to the airport’s sole FBO, Landmark Aviation. According to Mark Hander in the airport’s operations office, “During the construction period [September 2009 to April 2010], general aviation/corporate aircraft may experience taxi delays to the FBO ramp along with limited long-term aircraft parking.

The planned closure of Rialto Municipal Airport, also known as Art Scholl Memorial Field, in southern California sometime next year means even fewer places for aircraft owners to base their airplanes and yet another community without the benefits of a vibrant airport. Plans call for Lewis-Hillwood Rialto to build a mixed-use housing and office development on the airport’s 453 acres.
