The Part 16 process, which the FAA started in this case, is used to address complaints against federally assisted airports such as Santa Monica. The city and the airport have long held that they have the right to restrict traffic at the airport to enhance safety.

Hawker Beechcraft Services will become the second major business jet OEM service center to leave California when it closes its Van Nuys Airport facility on March 31. Last year, Cessna Aircraft announced that it is closing its Long Beach service center and moving those operations to a new facility in Mesa, Ariz.

Two new maintenance facilities have joined the Crownair Aviation portfolio: RoigWest Maintenance, a turbine aircraft maintenance service and support center at Van Nuys Airport, and West Coast Jet Services at McClellan Palomar Airport (CRQ), which will now be known as Crownair Aviation-CRQ.
Corsair Aviation, owner of two Part 135 charter companies, has purchased charter/management firm ACM Aviation, based at California’s Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport. ACM used to be an FBO as well as a charter/management company, but sold the FBO portion–called San Jose Jet Center–to Atlantic Aviation parent Macquarie Infrastructure in August last year. Corsair will operate the three charter companies separately.
Salinas Municipal Airport in central California has finished upgrades that include new offices, a conference room and modernized common areas. Other airport projects still under way include reconfiguration of the transient parking ramp, installation of a new beacon and a new taxiway to the upcoming Salinas Jet Center, which is being developed by FBO Central Coast Aviation.
The City of San Diego has issued a request for proposals for development of a 10-acre site at Brown Field Municipal Airport. Any aviation-related use will be considered, according to the RFP, which added that the site is ideal for an FBO, maintenance company, flight school, charter operation or hangar rental facility. The site was occupied by used car companies and housed an underground fuel farm, which has been removed.
