Flight-tracking company FlightAware has launched a number of new developments here at NBAA, including a worldwide ADS-B network that provides real-time, high-precision updates for any ADS-B-equipped aircraft operating within range of the more than 1,000 ADS-B FlightAware ground stations in more than 70 countries. ADS-B data augments that from other tracking sources, such as datalink and radar. FlightAware is showing off its new FlightFeeder ADS-B receiver here at NBAA (Booth 4845).
William “Bill” Highfill has joined Spirit Aeronautics in Columbus, Ohio, as director of maintenance. Spirit provides maintenance services, avionics design and installation and interior refurbishment for corporate, military, government and commercial operators.
The Mexican government is now allowing general and business aviation pilots to file advanced passenger information system (APIS) manifests directly when arriving in or departing from the country, eliminating the previous requirement to use a third-party flight-planning provider to do so.
Bermuda’s Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) is now accepting the Vector Safety Management System (SMS), available to Rockwell Collins’ Arinc Direct customers, as a means of compliance for the country’s SMS mandate. The DCA requires foreign business aviation operators to have an SMS program in place or to have started the SMS implementation process. The web-based Vector SMS program, provided through an agreement with Polaris Aero, integrates with the Arinc Direct flight operation service so customers can implement all the critical components of a safety management system.
The Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) on Tuesday released the raw satellite data that it used as the basis for its March 21 announcement that Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 had crashed into the southern Indian Ocean after disappearing on March 8 during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
Mexico implemented rules this week requiring private aircraft operators flying into or out of the country to submit advance passenger information (API) data. This mandate follows previously established API requirements for commercial operations under Mexico’s National Institute of Immigration agency.
Rockwell Collins completed its acquisition of communications and systems integration specialist Arinc late on Monday. The avionics group, which paid The Carlyle Group $1.4 billion for Arinc, said that the integration of its new division should be complete within six to nine months. “With this move we take a major leap forward to realizing our vision of providing a richer set of seamless information management solutions that encompass the aircraft and ground-based systems,” said Rockwell Collins CEO and president Kelly Ortberg.
Trip support group United Aviation Services (UAS) has boosted its international network with a new U.S. headquarters established in Houston and the launch last month of a trip management system. The Dubai-based company has signaled its intent to roll out more flight-support offices in other parts of the world.
Five U.S. airlines have signed on to participate in the Federal Aviation Administration’s Data Comm equipment initiative, bringing the effort to 80 percent of its targeted number of airframes, according to contractor Harris. The company revealed the first airline to commit–United–at the Air Traffic Control Association conference last month. Non-disclosure agreements prevented it from immediately identifying the others.
Hilton Software’s WingX Pro7 flight planning and navigation app now works with Dac International’s GDC64 aircraft data interface device. The GDC64, certified for use on Part 25 aircraft, can deliver to WingX Pro7 navigation, aircraft and air data information that is available on the aircraft’s Arinc 429 databus. The GDC64 has won EASA approval for installation in the Bombardier Learjet 60 and Dash 8.
