Helitech organizers have axed the Portuguese edition of the event that was happening every other year. Two shows took place, in 2008 and 2010, at Cascais airport, near Lisbon. But the organizers now believe that Southern Europe economies are not strong enough to support the event, a source close to Reed Exhibitions told AIN. The company will now have to face some sort of competition.
A new helicopter-dedicated airshow, dubbed “The Helicopter Show,” is scheduled for September 26 to 27, 2012 in Silverstone, UK. It will include both “military and commercial suppliers,” organizers have announced, and will not be open to the general public. Another helicopter show in western Europe, Helitech, takes place in Duxford (odd years) and Cascais, Portugal (even years).
Helitech will once again be staged at Airport Cascais, Estoril, Portugal, on October 5 to 7 after the success of its inaugural event in Portugal in 2008. Organizer Reed Exhibitions said this year’s event is going to be bigger, with more than 50 percent of the exhibition space already sold.
