Dassault (Chalet A14) is working steadily toward a certification date of 2016 for its much-anticipated super-midsize (SMS) Falcon business jet, Olivier Villa, Dassault's senior vice president civil aircraft, told AIN here at MEBA. Launched in January 2008, the twin-engine SMS is intended to be the successor to the out-of-production three-engine Falcon 50.

How can the Rafale be produced–and offered for export–at an economic price when the production rate is only about one aircraft per month? Last year, Metro Aviation put more than $250,000 into a panel truck interior that exactly matches the medical interior that the Shreveport, La. helicopter maintenance, modification and interiors specialist offers in the Eurocopter EC 145.
The idea was to create not a reasonable facsimile, but “an exact, working duplicate EC 145 medical interior,” down to the cabin interior shell and panels obtained from the helicopter manufacturer.
Embraer announced major suppliers that are participating in the joint-definition phase of the Legacy 450 and 500 midsize jet program. Preliminary design for the two new jets was completed in July. The more than 20 suppliers will work with Embraer engineers to “validate the aircraft configuration through a fully digital process, using virtual-reality mockups, the Catia V5 software and state-of-the-art technology,” according to Embraer.
Some outlines of Dassault’s future super-midsize Falcon, codenamed SMS, are beginning to emerge, although the French manufacturer said it has no plan to unveil the aircraft here. Nevertheless, among industry observers there is still plenty of speculation about price and cabin size.
