Engine modification firm Blackhawk announced a deal with maintenance program provider Jet Support Services Inc. (JSSI) at EAA AirVenture 2014 yesterday that will give customers the option of upgrading to new Blackhawk conversions in place of standard overhauls. Under the deal, JSSI will contribute to the value of the overhaul while customers would make up the difference in price.

Blackhawk Modifications has delivered its first two XP42A Cessna Caravan 208As, a modification that replaces the stock 675-shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-114A with an 850-shp PT6A-42A, along with a new 100-inch-diameter Hartzell propeller. The first upgraded aircraft was delivered late last week to Waialua, Hawaii-based Skydive Hawaii. Guyana-based Trans Guyana Airways took delivery of its XP42A Cessna Caravan today at EAA AirVenture.
After Bobby Bishop’s Texas Turbine Conversions converted the single-engine de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter from a PT6 to a TPE331 engine, the company needed another project. The Cessna Caravan looked like a good prospect, so Bishop bought a 1995 Cessna Grand Caravan 208B that had been used for hauling newspapers and had logged 9,000 hours.
Avatas Aerospace has signed an agreement with Precision Turbines to allow the latter to offer maintenance, repair and overhaul services for Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop engines. Precision Turbines provides a variety of products and services for the Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D, PW100 and PT6A and the Rolls-Royce T56. The company offers half-life, overhauled and new engines as well as OEM and PMA parts.
Grand Junction, Colo.-based West Star Aviation has completed Supplemental Inspection Document (SID) inspections on 27 Cessna Conquest II twin turboprops, ensuring that the airframe is free of corrosion, cracks, debonding, abnormal wear and other anomalies.
Clinton, Mo.-based Aviation Fabricators (AvFab) has received STC approval for its one-, two- and three-place side-facing divans on the Cessna 441 Conquest II. The approval for the twin turboprop involves the removal of existing seats and furnishings, situating the new divan in the desired location and locking the feet in place.
A more powerful, better-performing Cessna Caravan 208, including improved fuel burn, is the object of a program by Anchorage, Alaska-based Caravan dealer, modifier and maintenance facility Aero Twin to convert the turboprop single from its original 675-shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 to the 850-shp Honeywell TPE331-12JR-701S.

Avidyne and S-Tec announced the receipt of an STC to retrofit Cessna Conquest II twin-engine turboprops with the Alliant flat-panel cockpit. The required modifications, approval flights and FAA paperwork were completed at S-Tec’s headquarters in Mineral Wells, Texas.
