Avidyne and S-Tec announced the receipt of an STC to retrofit Cessna Conquest II twin-engine turboprops with the Alliant flat-panel cockpit. The required modifications, approval flights and FAA paperwork were completed at S-Tec’s headquarters in Mineral Wells, Texas.
A May 1 AD (2003-09-09) extends the provisions of an earlier airworthiness directive calling for a one-time inspection to check for chafed or damaged wiring in the fuel boost pumps in about 370 U.S.-registered Cessna 441 Conquests. The new directive makes the one-time inspection of the earlier AD a repetitive one (at 200-hour intervals) and requires the eventual installation of an improved fuel pump and wire-harness design.

CASA stated that the defect, located near the rear pressure dome, could cause the tail to separate during flight.

Honeywell has delivered the first production TPE331-12JR-701S turboprop powerplant to Aero Twin in Anchorage, Alaska, for its “850 Caravan” re-engine modification program. The 850-shp engine, certified last September, will replace the original 675-shp P&WC PT6 on the big Cessna single. Aero Twin expects to receive an STC for the conversion this spring.
Yingling doesn’t do beer. That’s Yuengling in Pottsville, Pa. Yingling Aviation in Wichita does business aircraft. Most recently, Yingling has created a joint ownership program offering partnerships on refurbished and updated Cessna Conquests. The program was launched with a 441 Conquest II and a 425 Conquest I, for which Yingling’s completion and refurbishment center did major cabin modifications.
Blackhawk Modifications (Booth No. 5176) is offering a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-135A upgrade for the Raytheon King Air F90. According to the Waco, Texas company, the upgrade gives the F90 the same performance as the F90-1.
Spokane, Wash.-based Rocket Engineering is developing the Turbine P Baron in parallel with the Royal Turbine Duke program. The Baron conversion, which fits two PT6A-21 turboprops and Hartzell four-blade props to the light twin, costs about $700,000 (airframe additional). The company plans to have an STC in 12 to 18 months.
