MD Helicopters has chosen Chelton Flight Systems to supply the EFIS cockpit for its light single helicopters. Beginning late next year, the helicopters will be available with factory-installed dual Chelton EFIS displays, a solid-state AHRS (attitude heading reference system), an air-data computer and a GPS/WAAS (wide-area augmentation system) receiver.

Universal Avionics continues to expand its EFI-890R retrofit cockpit program, most recently by announcing STC projects with IFR Avionics and Premier Air/West Star Aviation to bring the glass cockpit to the Gulfstream II and III and the Falcon 50.
Chelton Flight Systems (Booth No. 5184) and Kollsman, Inc. (Booth No. 3047) have announced a collaboration to combine Chelton’s synthetic-vision EFIS and Kollsman’s general aviation vision system (GAViS) technologies in products that will target a market ranging from light trainers to small and medium-size business aircraft.
Northeast Airmotive of Portland, Maine, is seeking approval to install the Shadin Avionics ADC-8000 RSVM solution as the Group B equipment provider. The Shadin system is designed for the Cessna Citation 500 with the Bendix autopilot now installed. The ADC-8000 provides commands to the flight director and the autopilot via the AC flight director module, and is compatible with the Chelton Flight Systems synthetic-vision EFIS.
Over the last month-and-a-half Honeywell has been giving the trade and general press firsthand demos of the most recent version of its developmental synthetic-vision system (SVS) about to start serious flight trials with Gulfstream in the G550. AIN was among the first group of journalists offered the chance to try out the technology, on a night flight in mid-September in the avionics maker’s Citation V test airplane.
The scene at a recent aviation trade show illustrates perfectly what has become an industry-wide dilemma. An avionics sales representative had just finished giving a seasoned flight department manager a nearly hour-long sneak preview of his employer’s newest retrofit cockpit system.
FH1100 Manufacturing Corp. of Century, Fla., has selected an EFIS cockpit from Chelton Flight Systems (Booth No. 2821) as standard equipment on all new 2006 Model FH1100 helicopters. The Chelton FlightLogic system will also be available for retrofit on FH1100 helicopters produced before this year.
Bell Helicopter has selected Chelton Flight Systems to provide a synthetic-vision EFIS cockpit for the 407 program. The contract has a potential value of more than $100 million.
Bell claims to be the first OEM to offer synthetic vision for all its light and medium single-engine models. Plans call for Chelton equipment to become the “preferred” system offered for the 206B JetRanger, 206L LongRanger and the new 210.
Chelton Flight Systems of Boise, Idaho, has received FAA certification for installations of its FlightLogic EFIS avionics in a number of Part 23 airplanes, including the Beech King Air 350, Cessna CitationJet, Learjet 23 and the Merlin/Metro turboprop. Chelton last year received STC approval for installation of the FlightLogic displays in the Cessna Citation 501.
