Chelton Flight Systems this month expects to issue a software revision to operators flying with the company’s FlightLogic synthetic-vision EFIS to fix a known anomaly that the FAA has said could provide misleading guidance under certain circumstances.

Chelton Flight Systems has gained certification for the AIU-1 analog interface unit, an important milestone that adds seven more TSOs to the company’s FlightLogic EFIS. By adding the AIU-1, the EFIS is now certified to display dual RMI/VOR, localizer and glideslope, as well as marker beacon, ADF, radar altimeter and conventional flight director.
Jeppesen says it’s ready to offer avionics makers an enhanced terrain and synthetic-vision database package that it claims offers a much more accurate model of the world than has been available until now.
Chelton Flight Systems and Kollsman are one step closer to introducing technology that can integrate the display symbology from Chelton’s FlightLogic EFIS with the infrared video image of Kollsman’s GAViS (general aviation vision system), a forward-looking camera that holds the promise of giving pilots a new way of seeing the world ahead.
Flight-testing is well under way for a new helicopter autopilot that, compared with other currently available systems, cuts both weight and cost in half, sources familiar with the project told AIN.
MD Helicopters has chosen Chelton Flight Systems to supply the EFIS cockpit for its light single helicopters. Beginning late next year, the helicopters will be available with factory-installed dual Chelton EFIS displays, a solid-state AHRS (attitude heading reference system), an air-data computer and a GPS/WAAS (wide-area augmentation system) receiver.
Universal Avionics continues to expand its EFI-890R retrofit cockpit program, most recently by announcing STC projects with IFR Avionics and Premier Air/West Star Aviation to bring the glass cockpit to the Gulfstream II and III and the Falcon 50.
Chelton Flight Systems (Booth No. 5184) and Kollsman, Inc. (Booth No. 3047) have announced a collaboration to combine Chelton’s synthetic-vision EFIS and Kollsman’s general aviation vision system (GAViS) technologies in products that will target a market ranging from light trainers to small and medium-size business aircraft.
Northeast Airmotive of Portland, Maine, is seeking approval to install the Shadin Avionics ADC-8000 RSVM solution as the Group B equipment provider. The Shadin system is designed for the Cessna Citation 500 with the Bendix autopilot now installed. The ADC-8000 provides commands to the flight director and the autopilot via the AC flight director module, and is compatible with the Chelton Flight Systems synthetic-vision EFIS.
Over the last month-and-a-half Honeywell has been giving the trade and general press firsthand demos of the most recent version of its developmental synthetic-vision system (SVS) about to start serious flight trials with Gulfstream in the G550. AIN was among the first group of journalists offered the chance to try out the technology, on a night flight in mid-September in the avionics maker’s Citation V test airplane.
