Part, a Victorville, Calif.-based MRO, has contracted with the Chilean Air Force to do a C-Check on its presidential 737-500. Part has performed heavy maintenance for other Chilean aircraft. A spokesman for the company told AIN, “We’re making a conscious effort to expand our services to the Latin American market. We see it as a long-term growth region for us.” A second presidential aircraft for an unspecified customer is also undergoing a C-Check, and later this year two more Latin American presidential aircraft are slated to arrive at Part’s facilities for maintenance.

Cessna Caravan 208B, La Junta, Chile, June 7, 2008–The commercial pilot was killed when the Patagonia Airlines Caravan crashed in the mountains west of La Junta in instrument conditions; the nine passengers received only minor injuries. Chile’s Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil is conducting the investigation.

Eurocopter last month signed cooperation agreements with two Chilean universities. Within the framework of a project called Edu-Copter, the OEM signed two complementary agreements with the Adolfo Ibañez Business University and the Aeronautics Sciences Academy from the Federico Santa Maria Technical University.
