The FAA has issued an Airworthiness Directive for the AgustaWestland A109S requiring the modification of the electrical power distribution system to carry a higher electrical load. It was prompted by an electrical failure that resulted from inadequate functioning of the 35 amperes “Batt Bus” circuit breaker.

Emteq recently introduced two new aircraft cabin power products. The IntelliOutlet simplifies installation without need for an external ground-fault interrupter box, relay and circuit breaker. The IntelliUSB is a convenient power charging port for portable electronic devices that use USB charging and has built-in circuitry for 28-volt DC power, eliminating the need for a converter.
Eaton Aerospace (Hall 2B Stand D32) comes to Paris celebrating its centenary–100 years in which it has grown from a small axle business into a company with, among other things, one of the most impressive arrays of aerospace systems and components, and an annual turnover of $13.7 billion.
The FAA issued a draft policy memorandum that would change circuit-breaker layouts in aircraft electrical systems, as well as how pilots deal with tripped circuit breakers. Comments are due by September 12. Principal changes would be for manufacturers to group and identify essential and non-essential circuit breakers in Part 23 aircraft and to publish flight manual guidance about when to reset circuit breakers.
The FAA has issued a draft policy memorandum that seeks to change attitudes about circuit breaker use in electrical systems and how pilots deal with popped circuit breakers. The policy would affect aircraft manufacturers and modification providers. Comments are due by September 12.
Bombardier Learjet 35A, Goodland, Kan., Oct. 17, 2007–The pilot’s failure to maintain control of the Learjet was the cause of its running off the runway on landing at Renner Field, according to the NTSB.
Bombardier Learjet 35A, Goodland, Kan., Oct. 17, 2007–The Jagee Ventures Learjet broke out of the clouds at 250 feet agl on approach to Runway 30 at Renner Field, slightly left of centerline. The pilot, in aligning the airplane with the centerline, experienced an uncontrolled left and right rolling motion.
Hawker Beechcraft 99, Moline, Ill., Feb. 18, 2008–No one was injured during the in-flight fire, which the Safety Board attributed to the arcing of the resistor and silicone-controlled rectifier in the flap control circuit. The pilot of the Suburban Air Freight cargo flight “smelled electrical smoke and saw flames behind the power quadrant,” while descending to land at Quad City International Airport (MLI).
Irvine, Calif.-based Eaton Corp. (Booth No. 5967) recently celebrated the successful flight testing of its arc fault circuit breaker (AFCB) technology as a stand-alone replacement for existing circuit breakers. Completing more than 350 normal service flights aboard a U.S.
Cessna 525B CitationJet CJ3, Stuart, Fla., March 8, 2008–The NTSB blamed the crew’s failure to reset the brake circuit breaker before taxiing for the airplane’s collision with an unoccupied parked airplane when the brakes didn’t work. The first officer had pulled the brake circuit breaker two days earlier when updating the Jeppesen database to keep the brake hydraulic motor from continuously cycling.
