A Piaggio Avanti blew its two main gear tires during a runway incursion at Teterboro Airport on June 17. The Avanti, operated by Avantair, was cleared to depart Runway 24. Forty seconds later, Cirrus SR22 N6026K was cleared to depart Runway 19, which intersects Runway 24. The Avanti pilot saw the approaching aircraft, applied maximum braking and missed hitting the SR22 by 50 feet. The incident occurred during VMC conditions.
Cirrus unveiled the mock-up of its long-awaited “personal jet” this afternoon at company headquarters in Duluth, Minn. While no firm price or performance numbers were given, Cirrus vice chairman Alan Klapmeier said his goals for the single-engine jet are simple systems, pleasant handling, good short-field performance, a top speed of 300 knots, a range of 1,000 nm and a price in the $1 million range.
The Air Taxi Association was officially launched today as a way to bring together companies that operate principally VLJs on a per-seat, on-demand basis, though at least one operator is using piston-driven Cirrus SR22s for the job. The eight founding members include familiar names such as budding Eclipse 500 operator DayJet, as well as some lesser-known start-ups such as Atlanta’s Imagine Air and Switzerland’s Jetbird.

Cirrus Design will officially launch its single-engine CirrusJet this month at the NBAA Convention in Orlando. In a promotional mailing sent out this week, Cirrus said the very light jet will be able to cruise at more than 300 ktas, fly more than 1,000 nm and have a service ceiling of 25,000 feet.
SATSair, the Greenville, N.C. air taxi startup, announced yesterday it has signed a $45 million deal with Cirrus Design Corp. (Booth No. 2957) to add 50 new Cirrus SR22 piston single-engine aircraft to its fleet, with an option to purchase 50 more.
