A contract for 30 of the new 737 Max airliners placed by an undisclosed customer on Tuesday has pushed Boeing passed 2,000 orders for the new generation narrowbody. According to the U.S. airframer, the Max has reached the 2,000-order mark faster than any other Boeing aircraft. Boeing now holds 2,010 orders from 39 customers worldwide, with a collective value of $209 billion at list prices, plus commitments for more than 250 additional aircraft.

Honeywell has announced that it is partnering with GMF AeroAsia to maintain the 131-9A auxiliary power units for the new Airbus A320 fleet being acquired by Garuda Indonesia. The first five of a 25-aircraft order are being delivered this year, with the last due in 2018.

Garuda hopes to increase the size of its fleet–which includes 25 ATR72-600s–from the 110 to 128 by year-end.

As Indonesia’s national carrier Garuda initiates efforts to enhance service through increased frequencies and destinations, in anticipation of its move to join the SkyTeam global alliance in March and the ASEAN Open Skies in 2015, it is looking at adding around 200 to 250 aircraft to its fleet between 2015 and 2025.

The carrier, which is to soon finalize its plans for a mix of narrow- and widebody aircraft, is expected to seek board approval this year to increase its fleet to 350 to 400 from its present 133 by 2025, CEO Emirsyah Satar told Reuters in Hong Kong.

Decelerating growth at Virgin America has led the airline to reconsider its fleet-expansion strategy and move to cut the number of airplanes it plans to add over the rest of the decade. Under a revised agreement reached with Airbus, Virgin America’s order for current-generation A320s will shrink from 30 airplanes to 10, all scheduled for delivery in 2015 and 2016, the airline announced Friday.

Garuda Indonesia has converted an MOU covering the purchase of 25 A320 family jets to a firm order, Airbus announced today.

The order makes Garuda Indonesia a new A320 family customer and covers 15 standard A320s and 10 A320neos for operation by the carrier’s low-cost unit, Citilink. The airline plans to announce its engine selection for the aircraft in the near future.
