After almost a decade of controversy, four years since the first complaint was filed and several postponements of the actual trial, the Bobigny Criminal Court (a French court near Paris Le Bourget Airport) decided on Tuesday to acquit NetJets Management Ltd and NetJets Transportes Aéreos (two companies trading as NetJets Europe) in a case where they were accused of employment practices contrary to French law. All civil plaintiffs’ claims were rejected.
New fractional ownership provider Jet Republic is putting a decidedly European imprint on the interiors and entire cabin layouts of its 110 new Learjet 60XRs, with the blessing of manufacturer Bombardier.
Drawing on the creative expertise of respected aircraft interior designer Jose Luiz Monteiro, Jet Republic said the cabins of its Learjet 60XRs will be crafted by Europeans for Europeans.
The 2008-09 European regional airline of the year is Aegean Airlines of Greece, which has won the award for the second time. Attending its first ERA assembly since abandoning development of the Avro RJX regional jet series late last year, BAE Systems was able to announce a wave of new lease deals. Turkish Airlines extended its lease for 12 Avro RJs–nine RJ100s and three RJ70s–for the third time since taking the aircraft in 1993.
The ERA has named Spanish operator Air Nostrum its Airline of the Year for the fourth time in nine years. Factors influencing the selection included innovative finance arrangements covering Air Nostrum’s acquisition of Bombardier CRJ900s and participation in satellite navigation trials.
Irish regional airline CityJet in a little more than a month expects to place into service the first of 23 Avro RJ85s acquired in a $221 million deal to replace its present fleet of 20 BAe 146s. According to CityJet CEO Geoffrey O’Byrne White, the choice boiled down to the airplanes’ shared characteristics with the BAe 146, enhanced performance, better economics and, of course, the Avros’ comparative youth.
