Facing the demands of increasing air traffic capacity and operational efficiency, the countries of the Asia Pacific region have launched various programs to adopt recent advances in Air Traffic Management and advances inavionics technology over the past couple of decades. Some countries (notably Australia) have forged ahead, while others are further behind, but it is hoped that recent developments could see closer cooperation for an eventual move to a whole-area solution.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), working with the Changi Airport Group, has introduced a number of new procedures on June 19 to ensure safe operations at Singapore’s Changi International Airport (WSSS). The efforts are specific to operations during low-visibility conditions resulting from recent severe haze caused by fires set to clear land in Sumatra. An extra one or two miles of separation will be added between arrivals, and the airport will keep runway lights on during daytime operations.

The new 32,300-sq-ft facility has additional floor space to accommodate future business growth. Staffed by 26 employees, StandardAero Singapore supports the Rolls-Royce 250 with component repair, field service and training.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has developed a program to increase the ranks of aircraft maintenance engineers (AME) by reducing to three years the current four-year apprenticeship program.
Dallas Airmotive’s Singapore regional turbine center has been awarded an operating certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). The facility is authorized by Honeywell for TFE731 major periodic inspection (MPI) services and line maintenance on TFE731, CFE738 and HTF7000 engines as well as line maintenance on RE100, RE220 and 36-series APUs.
The 5,000-sq-ft facility is staffed by six employees, including five certified mechanics and engineering-level personnel.
Commercial aviation is the biggest impediment to business aviation’s growth in Asia, according to Tay Tiang Guan, deputy director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). He said the rapid growth of the commercial aviation sector is taking the lion’s share of regulators’ attention and dominating airspace.
