Cessna Aircraft announced an agreement on Friday with Calgary-based AirSprint Private Aviation for at least nine Citation CJ2+ twinjets worth about $60 million at list prices. Innotech-Execaire, Cessna’s authorized sales representative in Canada, helped facilitate the sale. AirSprint is adding the light jets to advance its focus on “boutique customer service” and regional private air travel.

Cessna Aircraft has confirmed to AIN that it will end production this summer for the Citation CJ1+, the light jet that descends directly from the original CitationJet, which entered service in 1993. The CitationJet was redesignated the CJ1 in 1998 when Cessna added a Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 glass cockpit. In 2004 it became the CJ1+ with the addition of Fadec-equipped Williams FJ44-1AP engines and a 100-pound mtow increase.

Cessna Aircraft confirmed to AIN that it will end production this summer for the Citation CJ1+, the light jet that directly descends from the original CitationJet, which entered service in 1993. Cessna Citation 525A, Storm Lake, Iowa, June 21, 2010–The Citation CJ2 was landing at Storm Lake Municipal Airport at the conclusion of a Part 91 flight from Oklahoma City, when it departed the runway, collapsing the nosegear and causing structural wing damage. VMC prevailed at the time of the accident, but standing water from area thunderstorms was reported on the runway. The ATP-rated pilot and four passengers were uninjured.

Opera Aircraft Sales has become a sales agent for Gulfstream business aircraft in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania. The company, which is based in the Slovak capital Bratislava, is part of the same group as charter operator OperaJet, which operates two Cessna Citation CJ3s, a CJ2, a CJ and a Mustang. It is due to add a Dassault Falcon 2000 this month.

Cessna Citation 525A, Stuttgart, Germany, March 1, 2010–The German-registered CJ2 was climbing after takeoff from Stuttgart in VMC, en route to Bremen for maintenance, when the left engine experienced an uncontained failure. The twinjet returned to Stuttgart and landed without further incident. The pilot was not injured. The German Federal Government is conducting the investigation.

Cessna Aircraft last month announced the introduction of wide-area augmentation system (Waas) avionics upgrades for the Citation CJ1+, CJ2+, CJ3 and Encore+ as well as certain Citation Excel and XLS airplanes. Cessna has obtained a service bulletin for the installations in the CJ models and Encore+. Waas can be added to Excel and XLS models equipped with the Universal Avionics UNS-1Espw flight management system.

As part of Cessna’s ProAdvantage maintenance programs, Total Assurance Program (Tap) Advantage provides Citation CJ owners and operators more predictable engine maintenance costs for parts, labor and life-cycle components.

Cessna is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and the company’s 1 millionth customer was on hand here yesterday to mark his purchase of a Citation CJ3. Along with his wife, Anna, Juan Jose Bermudez will fly the CJ3 in the course of running his business, the Puerto Rican-based engineering firm of Bermudez & Longo.
