Cobb County Airport

Airplanes flying into Cobb County Airport-McCollum Field in Kennesaw, Ga., soon won’t have to clear customs at another airport, as officials last week broke ground on a dedicated, on-site U.S. Customs inspection facility at the airport. When the facility is complete, the general aviation airport will be the first in the Atlanta metro area to offer the service. Construction of the $800,000 facility is slated for completion by April next year, with customs services starting in July. A new $3 million, 80-foot control tower is also scheduled to open at the airport in April next year.

Facing 100-percent hangar occupancy at Atlanta’s Cobb County Airport/McCollum Field, the Atlanta Executive Jet Center (AECJ) has completed its Corporate Row Hangar Project, a $7 million development. Occupying a six-acre plot leased by AECJ in 2010, it consists of 100,000 sq ft of corporate hangar space along with 240,000 sq ft of new ramp at the airport. The new complex is expected to generate $9 million a year for the local community.

The widening and repaving project at Cobb County-McCollum Airport in Kennesaw, Ga., was completed early last month, and the runway is now 6,305 feet long and 100 feet wide. The shoulders and infield sections of the airport were also graded and additional drainage installed. For Atlanta-based flight departments and Atlanta-bound traffic, the Preferred Jet Center FBO at Cobb County offers an attractive alternative to closer-in Atlanta airports.
