Hawker Beechcraft King Air B200, Taylor, Texas, April 10, 2008–The NTSB ruled that the probable cause of the accidental death of a mechanic was the failure of the pilot and mechanic to ensure that the airplane was fully depressurized before opening the cabin door. Contributing to the accident was a failure in the airplane’s vacuum system.

Innovative Solutions & Support is preparing to submit the FAA paperwork necessary to secure a supplemental type certificate allowing installations of the Exton, Pa. firm’s AdViz Cessna Citation retrofit avionics system.

A Citation V completed its first test flight with the IS&S cockpit in April, following two years of development. STC approval is expected this month.

The economic downturn is giving manufacturers and operators of very light jets (VLJs) more time to prepare for the airplanes’ widespread entry into service, according to speakers at the Royal Aeronautical Society’s corporate, air taxi and personal jets conference in London on March 18 and 19.

FlightSafety International has commissioned the first Gulfstream G450/550 simulator equipped with the synthetic vision-primary flight display (SV-PFD). Specific additional training in the use of SV-PFD (which overlays a computer-generated view of the outside world on the flight displays) isn’t required by the FAA, but pilots have been asking for the chance to become familiar with the technology in the simulator.

Carson Helicopter Services, Sagem Avionics and Vector Aerospace will jointly celebrate a supplemental type certificate issued to Carson for a five-display glass cockpit on its Sikorsky S-61 fleet at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Static Display No. 25. The “Discover the New Sikorsky S-61 Tour” event will include VIP tours of the helicopter immediately following the celebration.

Appareo Systems of Fargo, N.D., and Eurocopter plan to unveil today a flight-data monitoring system scheduled to be certified for the AS 350 B2/B3 by the end of this year or in the first quarter of next year. Called Alerts Vision 1000, it is the latest extension of Appareo’s Alerts (aircraft logging and event recording for training and safety) product line.

Hawker Beechcraft 1900D, Page, Ariz., March 26, 2008–The NTSB concluded that the flight crew’s unprofessional behavior and deviation from standard operating procedures was the cause of the in-flight emergency when the aft cargo door came open and the crew had to return to Page Municipal Airport to land.

Marcus Schrenker, a 38-year-old financial manager under investigation by the SEC, apparently attempted to fake his own death on Sunday by parachuting from his Piper Meridian before the turboprop single crashed at about 9:15 p.m. in a swampy area near Milton, Fla., according to an FAA preliminary report.
