Emteq (Booth No. 2289) is unveiling “Easy HD” for its SkyPro and other manufacturers’ cabin management systems (CMS). The system provides high-definition (HD) components that work independently of an aircraft’s existing CMS and requires little or no modification of the CMS. It replaces existing analog bulkhead monitors with SkyPro HD monitors sized from 10.4 to 64 inches.

Embraer has selected Honeywell’s Ovation Select cabin management system for the Brazilian OEM’s new mid-light Legacy 450 and midsize Legacy 500 business jets.

The choice was announced here Monday by both companies. No value was placed on the contract. The new Legacy programs were launched in 2008. The Legacy 500 is expected to enter service in the second half of 2012 and the Legacy 450 in the second half of 2013.

Flight Display Systems is here in Geneva with two of its latest products: a Blu-ray video disc player and its Jet JukeBox for movies and music.

The U.S. company claims the video player is the first Blu-ray box specifically designed for aircraft. Users can upgrade their aircraft with the high-definition video disc player as a simple replacement unit, even if the cabin is not yet equipped with high-definition monitors.

Flight Display Systems of Alpharetta, Ga., said it has started shipping the first Blu-ray DVD player developed specifically for the aircraft cabin. Capable of playing Blu-ray discs or regular DVDs, the $4,879 unit interfaces with HD monitors and Flight Display Systems’ cabin management unit and includes an infrared remote control.

Icarus Instruments, the company that gave aviation its first sub-$10,000 satcom system, has unveiled the Sky Connect satphone, a 2.4-gHz cordless handset for use in business aircraft cabins and cockpits. According to Steve Silverman, Icarus president, Sky Connect was developed to provide a low-cost satcom option to the cabin-class market.

Baker Electronics has introduced a miniature multi-region DVD player that measures 2.5 in. high, 7.25 in. wide and 8 in. deep. Multi-region means that the unit can play DVDs from all parts of the world, as well as audio CDs, video CDs, so-called super video CDs and MP3 CDs. Dubbed the Mini-MRDVD-DB, the unit has been “ruggedized” for durability in aircraft cabins, according to Baker.

SkyTheater’s new high-definition audiovisual and surround-sound system has passed DO-160 testing, and the first installation will be in service on a business jet by the second quarter. Previous versions of the system are already flying aboard a variety of Boeings and Gulfstreams. The Hollywood, Fla.-based company has 12 orders for the new package scheduled through 2011.
