Ocean Sky’s FBO and maintenance businesses have been acquired following the sudden liquidation of the UK-based group’s aircraft charter and management businesses. Cyprus-based RSS Enterprises announced the acquisition of Ocean Sky Jet Centre, Ocean Sky Engineering, Ocean Sky Aircraft Interiors and Ocean Sky Jet Centre (Prestwick) this week.

Despite dire warnings about the consequences of restricted access to UK airspace and airports, overall business aviation’s part in London’s Olympic Games seems to have gone smoothly. In fact, those dire predictions proved overstated, and the event appears not to have resulted in as much of a boost to the industry as it might have expected.

Business and General Aviation Day at Cambridge Airport

The UK’s National Air Traffic Services is proposing to establish a new airspace structure specifically to accommodate business aviation during the period around the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Civil Aviation Authority and other agencies overseeing aviation arrangements for the Olympics are considering the proposal, and confirmation of further details is expected in November.

Britain’s Labour Party Members are pushing for a full Parliamentary inquiry into a government deal to pump more than £32 million into Italian-owned helicopter maker AgustaWestland rather than British-owned companies. AW operates the former Westland plant in Yeovil that manufactures the heavy AW-101 and is expected to ­produce the AW169 medium twin. Treasury secretary Danny Alexander is defending the decision.

The international industry debut of the Boeing 787 at Farnborough International this week has provided a major opportunity for local carrier Thomson Airways to fly its flag as the UK launch customer for the new aircraft, which is on display here until this afternoon. Thomson is a wholly owned subsidiary of international leisure group TUI Travel, which has ordered 13 of the 787s and has purchase rights on a further 13.

Signature Flight Support is working with the UK Border Agency and Technology Store to test a new system allowing processing of international passengers 24/7 at the FBO’s London Luton facility. During the trial, which began in January, arriving passengers don’t have to go to an immigration office but are processed remotely from the Signature FBO via secure video link. The trial will last for six months.

The UK’s Helicopter Museum in Weston-Super-Mare in Somerset is using the latest technology to provide a 360-degree virtual tour of the popular tourist attraction even before visitors leave their homes.

Portishead-based company 360VirtualTours.co.uk picked out the museum as its first chosen charity and has created a number of interactive tours free of charge, including hangar tours and even an internal cockpit view.
