Two freak Dallas-area winter storms–one ice, the other snow–in the days leading up to the Super Bowl were bad news for air travelers trying to get to the big game. On Thursday night, a system dumped four inches of snow in an area ill equipped to handle the white stuff, causing both Dallas Love Field and Dallas/Fort Worth Airports to shut down completely on Friday morning.
BBA Aviation Engine Repair and Overhaul Group has positioned three mobile response vehicles to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to support visitors to the Super Bowl, company president Hugh McElroy told AIN. There are more than a dozen business aviation airports within a 60-minute drive of the Super Bowl site.

The Dallas Executive Airport (RBD) has been selected as the 2004 Reliever Airport of the Year by the Texas Department of Transportation. The award was presented at the 22nd annual Texas aviation conference held recently in the state capital, Austin. Dallas Executive, formerly known as Redbird, is a 1,000-acre facility about 10 miles (18 minutes’ drive time, according to MapQuest) south of downtown Dallas.
