Falcon business jet orders and deliveries last year decreased by 44 percent and 26 percent, respectively, according to Dassault chairman and CEO Charles Edelstenne. At the company’s headquarters in Saint-Cloud, France, in mid-February, Edelstenne said orders for 40 Falcons were received last year, down from 72 in 2002. Deliveries fell last year to 49 Falcons, from 66 in 2002.
The FAA released proposals for several special conditions related to the certification of the Dassault Falcon 7X, which is expected in the second quarter. Special conditions usually pertain to newer technologies required to be approved but which fall outside the parameter of the FARs.
Organizers of the 2007 European Business Aviation Award, which is to be presented during the seventh annual European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva from May 22 to 24, have issued a call for nominations. The deadline is April 20. EBACE show promoters the European Business Aviation Association and NBAA jointly organize the award.
Dassault Falcon Service (DFS) on April 1 officially began operations from Farnborough Airport, the main European business airport rival to Paris Le Bourget, which serves as DFS’s headquarters. DFS president Christian Sasso told AIN that his company has taken an office at Farnborough and that DFS already has a Falcon 900EX registered in the UK.
Delaware-based Dassault Falcon Jet Wilmington and Nashville-based Averitt Aviation have received the FAA’s Diamond Award for aviation maintenance training. The FAA’s highest level award for maintenance training, the Diamond Award is a certificate of excellence given to select companies participating in the FAA Aviation Technician Training Program.
Dassault Falcon Jet has completed the approval process to certify CAE SimuFlite’s Falcon 2000 maintenance program. CAE SimuFlite is the first training partner to meet Dassault’s expanded instructor and training program requirements for the aircraft, contained in the Dassault Falcon Training Policy Manual (FTPM). CAE SimuFlite intends
to expand the FTPM process to other Falcon types this year.
A third Falcon 7X, S/N 03, on Tuesday joined the flight-test program. It will be used primarily for avionics, systems, and function and reliability testing. On its first flight of one hour and 43 minutes, the trijet reached 41,000 feet and Mach 0.82, according to Dassault. With this flight, Dassault said the Falcon 7X test fleet has logged 171 hours in 60 sorties. About 1,200 flight-test hours are planned as part of the certification program.
SimuFlite has started maintenance training on the Dassault Falcon 7X. The company conducted the first initial maintenance training course late last year at CAE SimuFlite in Dallas ahead of aircraft certification and entry into service. CAE also offers the Falcon 7X maintenance training at its new training centers in Morristown, N.J., and in Burgess Hill, near London Gatwick Airport.
Dassault Falcon Jet has bestowed authorized service center status on Jet Aviation Dubai for the Falcon 900 and 2000. The company is now authorized to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, AOG assistance and aircraft repair for Falcon 900s and 2000s.
Dassault’s fly-by-wire Falcon 7X is nearing the finish line and is expected to receive EASA and FAA type certification either by the end of this month or early next quarter. The first delivery–of S/N 05 to a European customer– should also take place in the second quarter, according to a Dassault Falcon Jet spokesman.
