FBO chain Castle & Cooke Aviation has signed a 30-year lease at Van Nuys Airport in southern California with Los Angeles World Airports, which confers full-service FBO status to the company. Castle & Cooke has offered hangar space at Van Nuys for 30 years, and has had its own fuel farm, but until the recent agreement wasn’t allowed to sell fuel to transient customers.

When officials at Los Angeles World Airports awarded a contract for a leasehold at Van Nuys Airport (VNY), some of the seven losing bidders cried foul. The winner, Castle & Cooke, is backed by billionaire David Murdock, and the protesters claim it was his support of Los Angeles mayor James Hahn that secured the deal.
Dole Food and its affiliate Castle & Cook have purchased three Eclipse 500 very light jets (VLJs) that will join a current corporate aircraft fleet. Dole’s flight department is based in Van Nuys, Calif., and includes a Global Express. “The decision to purchase these jets was made based on safety, performance and economics,” said Dole Food owner David Murdock.
