Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC), an aerospace and defense association that supports 1,200 related companies in southern England, has opened new offices in New Delhi and Mumbai. The moves follow the success achieved in the UAE, where member companies have been operating from offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai since 2007. FAC acts as a facilitator for business between large global primes and supply chains.

Fairs & Exhibitions is describing the biennial Dubai Air show, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2007, as “The world’s third largest aerospace exhibition.”
The 2009 show will have a new venue– “Aviation City” at Dubai World Central,  the UAE’s new six-runway mega-airport in Jebel Ali.

Dubai-based Emirates Investment & Development (Emivest) yesterday obtained U.S. approval to acquire an 80-percent stake from the Taiwanese government in San Antonio-based Sino Swearingen Aircraft. According to a Emivest spokesman, the deal to buy the manufacturer of the SJ30 light jet will formally close in the next few days.

Palm Aviation, the on-demand flight support provider, has announced plans for a new $12 million FBO at the massive urban aviation development project, Dubai World Central Aviation City. The 80,000-sq-ft facility, slated to be the first FBO at the site, is strategically important because of its location next to the world’s largest airport, and will enable rapid solutions for ground handling flight support needs, said the company.

Encore FBO and its financial backers, GTCR Golder Rauner and Platform Partners, finalized the purchase of Landmark Aviation’s Airport Services Division from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise on March 3. The purchase adds 33 FBOs to Encore’s eight, bringing the new chain to 41 facilities, all now branded under the Landmark Aviation name.

Boeing parts and aftermarket services company Aviall (Stand No. N39) has announced it will open a new customer service center in Dubai in the third quarter of this year. The new facility will serve commercial, military and business aviation customers in the Middle East and North Africa, providing support for more than 225 manufacturers of original parts and equipment.

Rapid economic growth in the United Arab Emirates is fueling the expansion of Dubai-based helicopter operator Helidubai. Less than two years after its inception, the company, owned by the government of Dubai, has embarked on a fleet expansion with both passenger and aerial-work aircraft. In addition, it is also striving to help create dedicated heliports and helipads in the burgeoning city.
