The General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates on June 4 announced plans to add two routes between the UAE and Bahrain, bringing the total number to three, to increase system capacity and improve traffic flow. No implementation date was announced for the new routes, which were created in partnership with the Dubai Foundation for Air Navigation Services.
The Middle East Business Aviation Association plans to hold frequent regional conferences to stay attuned to its members. Its Middle East Business Aviation Conferences (MEBAC) will be held about four times a year in different countries throughout the Middle East and North Africa. The inaugural MEBAC will be held on June 4 at the Hilton Hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Follow-on regional conferences will be held in Morocco on October 8, Dubai on November 17 and Bahrain on January 15.

Since 2007 XJet has been operating its award-winning XJet Club and FBO at Denver’s Centennial Airport, opening up the facility to transient customers in 2009. The facility offers “seven-star” service that has ranked the FBO top for two years running in AIN’s U.S. FBO Survey service provider category. Now, that service is to be extended to a new base at Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport, part of the huge Dubai World Central (DWC) development.
XJet, which has been operating an FBO at Denver Centennial Airport since 2007, is opening a second base at Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport. Last week, XJet founder and CEO Josh Stewart signed a 10-year lease agreement to establish an exclusive club and FBO service at the airport, which expects to see a doubling of private jet movements within the next five years. XJet has also committed to ultimately moving its headquarters to the UAE as it grows the company’s footprint in the Middle East.
Dubai Airshow organizing firm F&E Aerospace (Booth 827) said that the show’s new venue is on schedule for completion, with just 90 days until Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects officially hands over the keys for the show site. The biennial event will take place November 17 to 21 at Dubai World Central (DWC) in Jebel Ali. This year, more than 60,000 attendees and 1,000 exhibitors are expected.
A new Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) aviation study predicts that the Persian Gulf region will see 250 million passengers using its airports each year by 2020 and that annual Middle East aircraft movements will reach 2.3 million five years later, when the number of people living within range of a single flight reaches some 7 billion. The study, titled “The World Via Gulf” and published for Dubai’s The Airport Show, scheduled to take place from May 6 to 8 in Dubai, concludes that the region’s aviation industry will create 294,000 jobs over the next two decades.
Jet Aviation Dubai has opened an FBO at Dubai World Central’s Al Maktoum International Airport. The company was granted permission to operate an FBO at the field permanently following its appointment as the dedicated ground handling service provider for MEBA 2012 in December, which was held for the first time at Al Maktoum Airport.
Jetex Flight Support, which provides business aircraft handling services around the world and operates two FBOs in Europe, is pursuing an aggressive growth strategy that could see its FBO holdings triple over the course of this year, the Dubai-based company said at MEBA. According to Jetex president and CEO Adel Mardini, Jetex plans to open FBOs this year at Dubai World Central’s Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), as well as two new locations in Europe and one in the Far East.
From the gauntlet of stands that greeted visitors, to displays tucked into corners of the almost finished economy airline terminal that served as MEBA 2012’s exhibition hall, on the event’s last day exhibitors expressed a range of opinions about the show as varied as their display locations.
