As Airbus A350XWB (Xtra widebody) customers freeze aircraft interior configuration plans, the European manufacturer hopes to limit cabin furnishing options for the new twin-aisle twinjet in order to keep final-assembly lines flowing as it accelerates production rates during a steep industrial ramp-up.
Airbus has added Recaro and Sogerma passenger seats to the A350 supplier-furnished equipment catalog, which includes seats, galleys, cabin “monuments” and other items, but hopes to limit furnishing options to keep assembly lines flowing, officials said at the company’s unveiling of the airplane’s interior in Hamburg on April 7. It also emphasized increased width in the A350’s twin-aisle fuselage–thus boosting a claimed advantage over the competing Boeing 787–and confirmed that the twinjet will accommodate 10-abreast seating.
EADS Sogerma (Booth No. 5431) is exhibiting at the NBAA convention for the first time and is showcasing a full-size mockup of a cockpit seat that could fit into a super-midsize to large-cabin business jet.
The Airbus Corporate Jet Centre (ACJC) is stepping up efforts to offer the latest in TV, on-board Internet and telecommunications technology, as customers are consistently asking for electronics in their aircraft that have become commonplace on the ground. The Toulouse-based VIP completion facility (Stand 7070) has reached its target production rate of around four new cabins per year.
Aircraft interiors specialist EADS Sogerma has some sweet sleep for sale. The Airbus subsidiary formally introduced its “Ultimate Sleeper” premium first- class bed at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg in May, promoting it as having “the comfort of a real bed.”
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai’s Department of Civil Aviation, plans to open the second Aircraft Interiors Middle East (AIME) show on February 28 at the Airport Expo site in Dubai.
With larger airliners flying longer routes, accommodations that more truly live up to the to the term “first class” are in high demand, and EADS Sogerma (Hall 4 Stand E53) and Lufthansa Technik (Hall 4 Stand E54) plan to fill a niche in that market.

On April 22, Airbus’ new Corporate Jet Center (ACJC) delivered its first aircraft–a VIP-configured A320 to a private customer. The manufacturer has invested more than $10 million in modernizing and expanding its new completions center in Toulouse.
The Airbus Corporate Jetliner Center in Toulouse, France, which opened for business in July, has taken in its first two aircraft for cabin outfitting, both from the ACJ line and both to be furnished with executive interiors for private owners.
