Helicopter pilots gave a clear demonstration of their dedication to their profession last month by turning out in impressive numbers on one of the most frigid nights of the year, with a snowstorm tossed in for good measure, to attend a meeting of the Eastern Region Helicopter Council at the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton in Northern New Jersey. Approximately 75 pilots attended.
East 34th Street Heliport
U.S. Helicopter, the only scheduled helicopter airline operating in the U.S., recently expanded its New York City service to include departures from the East 34th Street heliport.
The NTSB said it confirmed throttle and flight control continuity, as well as fuel type and quantity, in the 1977 Bell 206L that crashed into the East River as it was taking off from Wall Street Heliport, N.Y., on June 14. The pilot and his six passengers were injured when the sightseeing helicopter, operated by New York-based Helicopter Flight Services, fell into the river and rolled inverted.
A helicopter service connecting Manhattan with New York City airports is due to start in about two weeks. On March 13 US Helicopter will introduce an eight-minute S-76B flight between the Wall Street Heliport and JFK Airport. The company will add services linking La Guardia and Newark Liberty International to Wall Street and the
East 34th Street Heliport later this year.
