CTT Systems is piling up contracts for its Cair cabin humidification system.
In early August the Nykoping, Sweden-based company announced an order for a Cair package from Lufthansa Technik. The system is being installed in a 747-8 undergoing outfitting at the German completion center’s Hamburg facilities.
Lufthansa Technik is opening a new sales office in Istanbul. According to the MRO, Turkey is one of the 10 countries worldwide growing most strongly and leads growth in Europe. “With fifteen airlines within a single country, Turkey offers us great potential. We want to be a reliable partner to our customers, and geographic proximity plays an important role in that regard,” said Wolfgang Weynell, vice president of marketing and sales at Lufthansa Technik.
Weak airline profits are increasing pricing pressure on the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market. That’s a big challenge–but by no means the only one–facing MRO providers in 2012, the Year of the Dragon, according to Lufthansa Technik chairman August Henningsen. “We’re happy we’re in a growth market, not a shrinking one,” he told a press conference in Singapore yesterday.

His comment to AIN here in Singapore this week comes as its former partner in the country, GMR Group, prepares to operate a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility with partner Malaysian Airlines in Hyderabad,
The German MRO giant pulled out of a tie-up with GMR Group, inked in 2008, last year to set up its own $20 million MRO facility at the new airport in Hyderabad.
Lufthansa Technik is now the sole owner of used aircraft spare parts supplier AirLiance Materials. The acquisition was completed when Lufthansa Technik acquired the shares previously held by minority owners United Airlines and Air Canada.
Lufthansa Technik and NAS-Holding of Saudi Arabia are expanding their relationship. Since the two companies signed a 10-year cooperation agreement in September 2010 Lufthansa Technik has supported NAS’s technical business, NAS-Tech, in developing capacity for maintenance and smaller overhauls. Lufthansa Technik has also taken over maintenance services for the engines and components of the entire NAS fleet.
Hamilton Sundstrand, a supplier in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner program, and Lufthansa Technik have signed a long-term contract calling for the German maintenance facility to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services on Hamilton Sundstrand’s components for the Boeing 787. The agreement also designates Lufthansa Technik as an official member of Hamilton Sundstrand’s Boeing 787 MRO supplier network.
Boeing and Lufthansa on December 6 plan to begin pre-delivery testing of the first 747-8 Intercontinental at the airline’s main operations base at Frankfurt Airport. Scheduled to last until December 9, the testing will help ensure a smooth integration of the newest 747 into Lufthansa’s operations, according to Boeing.
Germanwings and Lufthansa Technik have signed a contract for technical services to support the airline’s fleet of 30 Airbus A319s. The contract includes a Lufthansa Technik fleet manager based at the airline’s headquarters in Cologne, Germany, who will act as the single point of contact for all operational issues.
