West Star Named Bonanza Service Center
Hawker Beechcraft (HBC) announced at NBAA it has appointed West Star Aviation (Booth No. 3511) in Grand Junction, Colo., as an authorized service center to support its Beechcraft Bonanza, Baron and King Air models.

Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services (LBAS, Booth No. 7536) in a two-day job has installed Lufthansa Technik’s NiceView moving-map system in a Learjet 60XR. The NiceView components were described as “a simple replacement of the existing in-flight entertainment system.” According to LBAS, the installation can be combined with most scheduled inspections, thereby avoiding additional downtime to the charter operation of the aircraft.
Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services installed a Lufthansa Technik Niceview moving map on a Learjet 60XR. The company completed the installation in two days, during which it also conducted a scheduled inspection to avoid any additional downtime. The Niceview moving-map system provides worldwide, high-resolution 3-D maps and virtual flights.
Lufthansa Technik plans to build a new aircraft maintenance hangar at the future Berlin Brandenburg International airport. The new hangar, which is expected to enter service in 2012, will have three bays for short- and medium-range aircraft.
Volvo Aero and Lufthansa Technik will jointly develop new repair methods for structural parts of large commercial aircraft engines. The two companies will also cooperate in the appropriate certification processes, the repair services and the marketing and sales activities for the business.
Lufthansa Technik’s newly established Mobile Aircraft and Cabin Services (Macs) team has already completed several maintenance events at the home bases of different executive jet customers. According to the company, Macs is designed to maximize the availability of executive aircraft and reduce the cost for smaller scheduled maintenance checks.
Lufthansa Technik’s new VIP cabin quick-change kit allows operators to switch a narrowbody commercial airline interior to VIP configuration overnight. The kit eliminates the need for an operator to maintain a VIP aircraft permanently in that configuration, adding the flexibility to fly commercial passengers then quickly switch to a customized VIP interior.
Hamburg-based Lufthansa Technik Group reports that it recorded a small increase in revenue and stable profits last year. “We are investing in Germany while expanding our involvement in the international growth markets with sites in Eastern Europe, Asia, the Middle East and, increasingly, America,” August Henningsen, CEO, told AIN.
Lufthansa Technik has expanded its composite workshop at its airframe related components (ARC) facility in Hamburg, Germany, to handle repairs of large composite components. The company installed a new autoclave featuring a five-meter (16.3-foot) interior diameter, and this allows curing of the largest jet engine fairings, flaps and radomes using heat and pressure.
Lufthansa Technik has opened a new aircraft maintenance and component services facility on the Italian airport Malpensa. Lufthansa Technik Milan (LTMIL) is offering component and planned maintenance services up to A checks, aircraft-on-ground support and troubleshooting.
