Germanwings and Lufthansa Technik have signed a contract for technical services to support the airline’s fleet of 30 Airbus A319s. The contract includes a Lufthansa Technik fleet manager based at the airline’s headquarters in Cologne, Germany, who will act as the single point of contact for all operational issues.

The claim is based on Lufthansa Technik proprietary and patented development and “not only sets new standards in comfort but also satisfies all aviation authority requirements.”

Lufthansa Technik (Stand 443) can be counted on for something that expands the cabin envelope, so to speak. This time it’s a Recline Excite 700iSP ergometer (exercise bicycle) from Technogym, modified for in-flight use on aircraft.

At last month’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany, Lufthansa Technik (Stand 443) was one of the winners in the Crystal Cabin Awards. It would seem that something as simple as photoluminescent emergency floor-path lighting would offer little room for improvement. But the new technology contains more than just a few improvements.

Photo-luminescent emergency floor-path lighting seems so simple that it appears at first glance there’s little room for improvement, but Lufthansa Technik has done that and more. At the Crystal Cabin Awards judging in Hamburg, Germany, in April, the new technology was presented with little fanfare as non-electrical and maintenance-free. But it is much more than that.
