Boca Raton, Fla.-based DayJet last month reached its 100th day since starting per-seat on-demand service in the Southeast with its fleet of 28 Eclipse 500 very light jets. Company president and CEO Ed Iacobucci told AIN that DayJet is still “just getting booted up” and that he remains cautiously optimistic about the air-taxi concept. “What’s really exciting is that the business model now exists.”

Per-seat, on-demand very light jet air-taxi firm DayJet yesterday added Naples, Fla., and Savannah, Ga., as DayPorts, augmenting the five initial DayPorts in Boca Raton, Gainesville, Lakeland, Pensacola and Tallahassee, Fla. In addition, the company added 12 new DayStops in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. “Naples and Savannah are strategic additions to our DayPort service network,” said DayJet president and CEO Ed Iacobucci.

The FAA has given Boca Raton, Fla.-based DayJet the green light to use Eclipse 500 very light jets (VLJs) for its “per-seat, on-demand” service, the company announced yesterday. The addition of the five-seat twinjets to DayJet’s Part 135 operating certificate “is the culmination of more than five years of dedicated work to develop the world’s first fully automated fleet operations system,” said DayJet president and CEO Ed Iacobucci.

The FAA completed validation flights last month for DayJet’s fleet of 12 Eclipse 500s, bringing the company one step closer to launching the first fully digital operation. The company has designed an operating system–affectionately known as “Hal”–that manages its day-to-day operations and all requirements for the Part 135 certificate.
