A single report of a mis-wired APU fire-extinguishing bottle on a Citation X (Model 750) has prompted a proposed AD to require placing identification sleeves on the positive and negative terminals of APU and main engine fire-extinguishing bottle wiring and reconnecting the wires to the correct terminal studs on Citation 500s, 550s, S550s, 560s, 560XLs and 750s.
A proposed AD calls for inspections to detect improperly installed wiring for optional cabin lighting that could cause fires in Falcon 50s. The FAA, which cited no incidents attributed to the alleged problem, said the wiring may be directly connected to the battery bus instead of through a dedicated circuit breaker.
Eaton Corp. (Stand A919) has developed a new oil indicator sensor that works with a rotary-wing aircraft’s existing chip detection system to accurately determine oil fluid levels in intermediate, tail rotor and main gearboxes. The system works with existing aircraft wiring and features a cockpit caution panel indicator that detects the presence of oil.
Controversy continues to swirl around the FAA’s September 2005 aircraft thermal and acoustic insulation regulations, which went into effect in January. The agency amended the original regulations after discovering that the wording implicated a much broader range of components than intended.
