L2 Aerospace and Cella Energy have teamed up to develop hydrogen storage technology for small, fuel-cell-powered unmanned aircraft systems and potentially other, larger manned and unmanned vehicles. The companies are displaying a mockup of a concept design here at the Farnborough International Airshow (Hall 3 Stand B25).
CRS Jet Spares is offering a new low-current/constant-voltage battery trickle charger that can be used to float-charge nicad and lead-acid mainship batteries. According to Armando Leighton Jr., the company’s CEO, the unit is a low-cost way to maintain the charge of batteries in storage or on aircraft so that fully charged batteries are available when needed.
Singapore’s Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies (Stand B75) is officially unveiling its new Aeropak fuel cell system here this week. It is designed to increase the flight endurance of small and stealthy electric unmanned aerial systems (UAS) by as much as 300 percent, the new product will bring an immediate performance improvement over today’s best battery systems, according to Horizon.
A fuel-cell-powered electric airplane is the goal of Worcester, Mass.-based Advanced Technology Products and its nonprofit arm, the Foundation for Advancing Science and Technology Education. At Oshkosh, ATP announced its receipt of a $400,000 NASA grant to develop a fuel cell and exhibited a modified DynAero Lafayette III, built and donated by American Ghiles Aircraft of Deland, Fla. The airplane is being developed in three phases.
The Hawker 43Ah steel case, sealed lead-acid battery has been STC’d for installation in the Embraer Brasilia. The unit was developed as a replacement for the factory-installed SAFT 4076-9 and 4078-10. It is already in use on the Bandeirante, Twin Otter and Dash 8.
The ultra-light Akoya, an original amphibian twin-seater, is to make its first flight by this summer. The Akoya can takeoff from land, water or even snow thanks to innovative features, Lisa Airplanes CEO Erick Herzberger explained to EBACE Convention News. Simultaneously, the Chambery, France-based company is working on a fuel-cell powered aircraft, the Hy-Bird.
Duncan Aviation has signed an agreement with Securaplane Technologies to provide sales and service on Hawker pure lead SLA batteries. The Hawker mainship battery is a no-maintenance, pure lead battery that can be shipped as non-hazardous/non-spillable. The battery can also be stored fully charged for up to 24 months with no ongoing maintenance or top-charging.
Cantec Systems of Ontario, Canada, is the latest company to sign a distributor agreement with Securaplane Technologies to offer Hawker main ship batteries. Cantec is an authorized Canadian value-added center for power products and has been supporting Canadian military land vehicles, aviation, portable power, telecom, UPS and industrial customers with pure-lead technology for more than 20 years.
Former Securaplane executive Mark Lukso has started Lux Aviation Engineering. The Tucson, Ariz. company’s first products designed for the business aviation market are main ship and emergency/standby Kokam lithium polymer batteries.
