MSP Jet Center recently added five new employees–all of whom hail from the
now-closed General Dynamics facility at MSP–to its tech services team, according to president Tim Ashenfelter.

A Bell 407, highly customized for air medical operations, is the centerpiece of United Rotorcraft Solutions’ Heli-Expo Booth (No. 1617). It features Chelton synthetic vision and is provisioned for a Chelton autopilot. The completion by the Decatur, Texas, systems integrator is one of two 407s configured for Halo-Flight of Corpus Christi.
Honeywell’s recent move to quite literally get closer to its defense customers around the world is paying dividends quickly in Asia, as the U.S. group seeks to capitalize on the fact that military markets here are growing by between 4 and 8 percent each year–unlike those in the West that are flat or shrinking.
South Korea’s Jeju Air has placed an order with Honeywell to replace the wheels and brakes on its Boeing 737s. The terms of the contract have not been disclosed, but as part of the agreement the U.S. manufacturer also will provide spares for up to 15 of Jeju’s 737s.
Universal Avionics Systems on January 15 announced the retirement of senior vice president and board member Donald Berlin. He has held senior management positions at the company since introducing its first product in 1982. In his 28-year career at Universal, he served two years as COO and 24 years as vice president of marketing and support before his senior vice president role.
Without hesitation, business aviation did the right thing last month when it donated its people, its expertise and its airplanes to help ease the misery in Haiti. Also without hesitation, NBAA grabbed the baton of coordination this time around with surer hands than it did after Hurricane Katrina.
In September, Tim Mahoney succeeded Rob Gillette as president and CEO of Honeywell’s aerospace division. Gillette served 13 years with the company, and was named head of its aerospace business in 2005. He resigned to become CEO of solar technology firm First Solar. Mahoney–who joined Honeywell in 1997–was most recently the aerospace division’s chief technology officer.
Rockwell Collins last month announced plans to acquire AR Group and its affiliated companies, which includes business aviation trip support services provider Air Routing International. Under the agreement, Rockwell Collins will acquire all of AR Group’s shares for an undisclosed amount. The transaction was expected to close late last month or early this month.
Universal Avionics (Booth No. 4254) unveiled the UL-800/801 communications management system, developed to be compatible with Future Air Navigation System (FANS) and VHF datalink (VDL) Mode 2 capabilities for digital communications between pilots and ATC.
