Universal Weather and Aviation (Booth No. C8926) and Honeywell (Booth No. N4500) have joined forces to provide extra flight services support for business aviation operators. Honeywell will augment its Global Data Center (GDC) offering with flight permits plus global ground handling, concierge and security services provided by Universal Weather.
Avionics manufacturer Rockwell Collins has selected FlightApps of San Francisco to deliver supplemental services including installation, training, customer consultation, application support and hosting for Rockwell Collins’s Ascend Flight Operations System (FOS) software.
EMS Aviation is appearing at NBAA’11 for the first time as a member of the Honeywell Aerospace family. As part of the acquisition of parent company EMS Technologies for $491 million, EMS Aviation became part of Honeywell Aerospace (Booth No. N4500) in August.
After four years of decline, business aviation is poised for moderate recovery beginning in 2012, according to Honeywell Aerospace’s annual Business Aviation Outlook, released yesterday at the NBAA 2011 Annual Meeting and Convention in Las Vegas, Nev. The Honeywell forecast is based on surveys of more than 1,500 flight departments around the world.
The former head of the New York State Police aviation unit has been charged with grand larceny for selling a state-owned Garmin 496 GPS to a fellow trooper. Retired Maj. Robert Kreppein is accused of selling the unit for $1,600 in 2008. Kreppein retired in July after media reports surfaced that he was being investigated for allegedly approving civilian flights on state police helicopters.

The FAA issued an amended supplemental type certificate for the VoiceFlight Systems VFS101, adding new units to the company’s approvals for voice command of Garmin GNS navigators. The amendment adds the GNS430W and 530W, allowing pilots to use speech command instead of knobs to control a wider variety of Garmin navigators.
Avidyne announced this week at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., that it is joining the push into touchscreen avionics control with the launch of the IFD540 FMS/GPS/navcom system. The IFD540 is a plug-and-play replacement for the Garmin GNS530, slotting into the Garmin tray and taking up the same real estate on the panel.
Jet Aviation will install Honeywell’s Ovation Select cabin management system in a BBJ currently undergoing completion at the center’s Basel facilities.
The system provides total command of the cabin environment through icon-based touchscreen passenger interface controls; either a drink-rail-mounted personal control unit or wireless hand-held device.
