CMC Electronics expects the first applications of its FronTier range of integrated cockpit systems to enter service before the end of 2013. The Canadian company is seeking to challenge the dominance of Honeywell and Rockwell Collins in the Part 25 business jet market segment by developing a competitor to the Primus Epic and Pro Line avionics suites.

CMC Electronics (Booth No. 371) is aiming to step up its position in the avionics market with a major investment in a new family of integrated avionics suites. Part 25-certified business aircraft will be the first applications for the new FronTier range of cockpit systems, with the first application expected to enter service before the end of 2013.
Piper Aircraft has achieved FAA certification for the Garmin G1000 avionics system aboard the Meridian six-place single-engine turboprop, an airplane originally certified with the Meggitt Magic EFIS and later upgraded to the Avidyne Entegra cockpit. The list price for a new Meridian with the Garmin cockpit is $2.071 million versus $2.021 million for the airplane with the Entegra suite.
A group of experienced former Eclipse Aviation workers appears to have launched a company called Eclipse 500 Services to provide maintenance for Eclipse 500 very light jets. The company’s contact information lists an Albuquerque, N.M. telephone number but provides no information as to the identity of the principals.

Sandel Avionics is adding new WAAS approach annunciations to its 4-ATI electronic primary navigation display, the SN4500, with a software update available next month. The Vista, Calif. manufacturer of plug-and-play EFIS replacements for legacy electromechanical attitude-director and horizontal situation indicators said the SN4500 will then annunciate the type of WAAS approach that is armed.

Chelton Flight Systems of Boise, Idaho, has received FAA approval for installation of its FlightLogic synthetic-vision EFIS in helicopters. The approval was accomplished as part of the FAA’s Alaska Capstone program with support from the agency’s rotorcraft directorate in Fort Worth, Texas. The initial STC installation was performed by Hillsboro Aviation in Hillsboro, Ore., in a Bell JetRanger operated by the company in charter service.
