The Embraer Legacy 650 will make its public debut at the seventh Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (Labace), which starts on Thursday and ends Saturday at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, Brazil. São Paulo, Brazil-based Embraer delivered 69 regional and executive jets in the second quarter, up 15 aircraft from the same period last year. Shipments of Embraer’s executive jets more than doubled from 19 in the second quarter last year to 40 this year, while regional jet deliveries fell from 35 to 29.

Flybe yesterday placed what will likely be the biggest regional airliner deal of the Farnborough show week, committing to buy up to 140 Embraer 175 aircraft with a potential combined value of $5 billion. The contract signed here includes 35 firm orders (worth $1.3 billion), 65 options and 40 purchase rights.

Embraer expects its revenues from the defense sector to grow by almost a third this year, reaching approximately $650 million compared with $500 million in 2009. Its military backlog going into 2010 stood at $3.2 billion and could increase if Indonesia’s defense minister signs off on a deal for eight EMB 314 Super Tucano trainer/light attack aircraft.

Embraer announced strategic customer support enhancements in the Asia Pacific region. According to the Brazilian airframer, all parts and logistics support for Embraer commercial and business aircraft in the region will be managed from the regional distribution center in Singapore.

“The economy is getting better this year,” said Claudio Camelier, Embraer vice president of market intelligence executive jets, but it will take some time for the business jet market to climb back to the peak of $22 billion worth of deliveries it reached in 2008. A significant factor affecting new business jet sales is the number of used aircraft on the market, which peaked last year and remains high.
