Bombardier secured a long-anticipated North American launch customer for its new C Series airliners in late February, when Indianapolis-based Republic Airways placed a firm order for 40 CS300s. The purchase contract, which also includes options for another 40 CS300s, calls for deliveries to start in the second quarter of 2015. Republic has chosen a single-class, 138-passenger cabin configuration, featuring 25 so-called stretch seats.
BA CityFlyer began flying its first Embraer E190 out of London City Airport last month, on a regular route to Edinburgh, Scotland. The E190 recently gained approval to fly the steep approach into the London Stolport, where Switzerland’s Baboo flew the type’s inaugural LCY service on February 10 from Geneva.
Although revenues from commercial aircraft sales fell at Embraer, the fortunes of the executive aviation division actually improved. Embraer’s executive aviation segment net sales reached $896.3 million, up nearly $20 million over 2008. The manufacturer delivered 115 business jets last year–93 Phenom 100s, one Phenom 300, 18 Legacy 600s and three Lineage 1000s–just short of tripling the 36 it shipped in 2008.
Brazil-based aircraft manufacturer Embraer on Friday said its profits dropped 36 percent last year, to $248.5 million, versus $388.7 million in 2008, while net sales last year stood at $5.47 billion, down from $6.34 billion in the previous year. Although revenues from commercial aircraft sales fell, the fortunes of the executive aviation division actually improved.
Barely 10 days after Embraer’s E190 gained certification to fly the steep approach into London City Airport, Switzerland’s Baboo became the first airline to take advantage of the new capability when it flew one of its three 100-seaters between Geneva and the single-runway Stolport on February 10. The airplane replaced one of Baboo’s pair of Bombardier Q400s for the landmark flight.
With Brazilian and FAA certification granted to Embraer’s Phenom 300 in December, the new type entered service with first customer Executive Flight Services on December 29. This marks Embraer’s third new certification project during the past two years (including the Phenom 100 and Lineage 1000).
While other business aircraft manufacturers struggled last year, Embraer more than tripled its production output of executive jets. Thanks to the ramp-up in deliveries of its new Phenom line, the Brazilian aircraft company delivered 115 business jets last year, up from the 36 it shipped in 2008. Broken down by model, Embraer delivered 93 Phenom 100s, one Phenom 300, 18 Legacy 600s and three Lineage 1000s last year.
Austrian low-fare airline Niki in late November converted purchase rights into firm orders for another two Embraer E190s, deliveries of which the companies have scheduled for the first half of next year. A firm order for five airplanes announced during the Farnborough Airshow in July 2008 included purchase rights on another five jets–either E190s or E195s.
