The NTSB has sent a letter to FAA Administrator Marion Blakey recommending that the Rockwell Collins AHC-85 attitude heading reference system (AHRS) computers in more than 7,000 regional airliners and business jets be tested to ensure the units won’t fail during aggressive pitch and roll maneuvers.

Bombardier employees in Montreal and Belfast might thank, among others, SkyWest Airlines for the Canadian manufacturer’s decision to boost regional
jet production this year. A firm order from the St. George-based carrier for 18 CRJ700s and four CRJ900s announced on November 30 raised last year’s CRJ sales totals to 136 and the production backlog for the ubiquitous regional jet series to 168.

SkyWest Airlines last month said it plans to acquire 22 more regional jets as part of a strategy to retire 23 Embraer Brasilia turboprops and add 66-seat jet capacity to its United Express network. SkyWest also intends to swap four 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200s for four RJs configured with 76 seats under its Delta Connection banner.

Embraer E170, San Francisco, Calif., May 26, 2007 – The Republic Airlines Embraer E170 and Skywest Airlines Embraer Brasilia almost collided at the intersection of Runway 1L and Runway 28R at San Francisco International Airport. The Skywest Brasilia was cleared to land on Runway 28R at SFO, and the Republic E170 was cleared to take off from Runway 1L.

The NTSB last month announced an investigation into a May 26 incident at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in which two regional airliners came within 50 feet of colliding. At about 1:30 p.m. the tower air traffic controller cleared SkyWest Airlines Flight 5741, an Embraer Brasilia arriving from Modesto, Calif., to land on Runway 28R.

Life for Fairchild Metro and Merlin owners is looking up. Maintenance, repair and overhaul options for the airplanes have now expanded to include Springfield, Mo.-based Worldwide Aircraft Services, which M7 Aerospace bought last year. According to Jim McClean, president and general manager, the company has a solid history upon which it has built the new service.

Embraer has signed a five-year distribution and logistics agreement with Sydney-based Hawker Pacific covering the supply of EMB-110 Bandeirante and EMB-120 Brasilia spare parts in Australia and the Pacific Rim.

In the little more than five years since its formation, Air France domestic partner Régional has evolved from three distinct, ailing French domestic carriers into a single, profitable regional operation and the second biggest French airline after the country’s flag carrier. Last September Régional announced plans to acquire six Embraer E190LR jets and place options on six more, making it the aircraft’s first operator in Europe.
