Kansas City, Mo.-based regional fractional provider Executive AirShare last month took delivery of its first Embraer Phenom 100. Executive AirShare has 44 Phenom 100s and six Phenom 300s on order. The company anticipates that it will be the first to operate the Phenom 100 under FAR Part 135 regulations and the first established fractional provider to operate the type under Part 91K.
Embraer Phenom 100
Embraer’s Phenom 100 entry-level jet received EASA certification on Friday. The five-passenger twinjet was introduced by the Brazilian manufacturer in 2005 and received Brazilian Agencia Nacional de Aviacao Civil and FAA certification in December. As of last week, 12 Phenom 100s have been delivered.
Nearly 50 customers have completed Phenom 100 pilot training at Embraer CAE Flight Training Services, a joint venture between CAE and Embraer, CAE told AIN. In addition, several FAA, EASA and Brazilian ANAC officials have also completed the 14-day Phenom training course, which has been conducted at CAE’s Dallas facility since September.
A Brazilian labor court ruled late last month that Embraer would not have to reinstate some 4,300 employees it laid off in February after it found that the company did not violate any of the country’s labor laws. However, the court ruled that Embraer would have to pay the employees’ salaries up to March 13, rather than February 19–the day the company instituted the dismissals.
One hundred years after introducing the first aviation tire–the Wing Aeroplane tire–Goodyear Tire and Rubber is adding a new tire to its lineup, the Flight Eagle LT designed for light jets, including very light jets and single-engine entry-level jets. The six-ply Flight Eagle LT is optimized for higher-speed applications with a reinforced bead area, high-speed tread compound and a two-groove tread design.
Embraer is paying for a service bulletin to replace flap-controller units in the first 10 to 20 Phenom 100 very light jets. The new controller units will have updated software to fix a “nuisance failure” problem that causes the flaps not to work. “The failure does not actually exist,” explained Embraer’s Mauricio Martins de Almeida Filho, “but the system interprets it as a ‘flap fail’ condition and triggers a fail-safe shutdown.
Embraer officially became the third manufacturer to achieve entry-into-service of a very light jet, having delivered two Phenom 100s by the end of last
year following Brazilian ANAC and FAA certification in early December. EASA certification is expected early this year. Embraer had planned to deliver up to
Regional fractional share operator Executive AirShare (EAS) announced that it will be selling Phenom 100 shares for $299,500 for a one-sixteenth share with 20 days/50 flight hours per year. Quarter shares cost $1.18 million and include 80 days/200 hours per year.
Brazil’s Embraer expects to reduce production of its E-Jet line of airliners by between 15- and 20 percent this year as it prepares to manage a backlog that saw its first decline in two and a half years during last year’s fourth quarter.
Christmas came early for Embraer. The Brazilian manufacturer’s first clean-sheet business aircraft, the Phenom 100 light jet, was certified on December 9 by the Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil of Brazil and three days later by the FAA, bringing Embraer a step closer to its goal of becoming “a major player” in the business aviation market.
