Embraer recently delivered its 300th Phenom jet, some three years after the first Phenom 100 was handed over. Appropriately enough, the milestone aircraft was a Phenom 300. To date, half of the Phenoms delivered have been taken by North American customers, with Latin American operators accounting for another 30 percent; Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), 17 percent; and Asia, 3 percent. The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer delivered 98 Phenoms in 2009, 126 in 2010 and 83 last year.

Embraer delivered 50 business jets during the fourth quarter, a figure that includes the first Phenom 100 assembled at its new facility in Melbourne, Fla. For the entire year, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer shipped 99 executive jets (83 light jets and 16 large jets), down from the 115 jets it delivered in 2010. Embraer’s firm order backlog, which includes both airliners and executive jets, currently stands at $15.4 billion.
Barrington Irving, founder of Experience Aviation, will use a donated Embraer Phenom 100 light jet as a flying classroom to encourage students to pursue education in science, technology, engineering and math (Stem). Entrepreneur and philanthropist Fabio Alexander is providing the jet, with “continuing support” covered by Embraer, for Experience Aviation’s “Journey for Knowledge” program.
Work is progressing on Embraer’s newest offering, the midsize Legacy 500, and the Brazilian airframer says it is on schedule to fly the $18.4 million twinjet by year-end.
Nearly three years ago exactly, in October 2008, I was sitting in the back of a Citation CJ1+ headed to the NBAA convention in Orlando, Fla. Lehman Brothers had collapsed two weeks earlier and there was a sentiment of caution and confusion surrounding the financial markets. NBAA 2008 ran from October 4 to 10.
Embraer has two in-development midsize jets–the Legacy 450 and 500–that will be in service by the end of 2013.
Embraer delivered its 200th Phenom 100 on May 11, a milestone that it achieved in just one-and-a-half years. The light jet was received by Phoenix-based aircraft sales, charter and management firm Swift Aviation Group. Swift ordered this Phenom in May 2006. Swift was Embraer’s launch customer for the Legacy 600, placing an order for 25 of the super-midsize jets in 2000.
Europe’s still-fledgling entry-level charter jet market is showing some positive signs of growth, according to leading operators and analysts.
Everjets signed a contract yesterday for an Embraer Phenom 300 executive jet to be placed in charter service. After taking delivery in December, Everjets will serve southern Europe from its base in Portugal.
Embraer will wait until as late as year-end for Boeing to decide on a plan for a 737 replacement before the Brazilian company commits to a successor for its own E-Jet series, according to Embraer executive vice president for the airline market Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva.
